RANGELAND FIRE DANGER STATEMENT

.DISCUSSION...Mild and dry weather continues today. Highs will be
in the mid 70s to mid 80s, with minimum relative humidity values
20 to 30 percent. Highs Tuesday will be around 90, and chances for
showers and thunderstorms will return. Southerly winds will be
gusty, especially across south central SD.

...High Fire Danger...

The grassland fire danger index will reach the high category this
afternoon. Unfavorable weather conditions or a low moisture
content of grasses, and other dry organic material on the ground,
indicate that there is a moderate to high potential for a fire
occurrence. Outdoor burning should be restricted to early morning
or evening hours when wind speeds are usually lower and the
relative humidity is higher.

The outlook for Tuesday afternoon, The grassland fire danger
index will reach the high category.

The grassland fire danger index will reach the moderate category
this afternoon. Marginal weather conditions or a lowering
moisture content of grasses, and other dry organic material on
the ground, indicate that there is some potential for a fire
occurrence. Do not leave outdoor fires unattended under these
conditions.

The outlook for Tuesday afternoon, The grassland fire danger
index will reach the moderate category to high category.
