...4TH WARMEST AUGUST ON RECORD...

AUGUST WAS A WARM MONTH WITH NEAR NORMAL PRECIPITATION. THE AVERAGE
TEMPERATURE WAS 52.2 DEGREES WHICH IS THE 4TH WARMEST ON RECORD. THE MAIN
REASON FOR THIS FAIRLY WARM AVERAGE TEMPERATURE IS THAT THE LOW TEMPERATURES
SET A NEW RECORD FOR BEING THE WARMEST AVERAGE LOW DURING THE MONTH OF AUGUST.
THE PREVIOUS RECORD FOR WARMEST AVERAGE LOW WAS 51.7 DEGREES SET IN 1997.

THE HOTTEST DAYS OCCURRED LATE IN THE MONTH WHEN WARM DOWNSLOPING WINDS MOVED
IN AND PUSHED THE HIGH TEMPERATURES TO 76 DEGREES ON THE 27TH AND 73 DEGREES
ON THE 28TH. THESE WERE RECORD HIGHS FOR THEIR RESPECTIVE DAYS. PREVIOUS
RECORDS WERE 73 IN 1954 FOR THE 27TH AND A TIE OF 73 DEGREES FOR THE AUGUST
28TH RECORD FROM 1989. THERE WERE ALSO 5 DAYS OF RECORD WARM LOW TEMPERATURES
THIS MONTH.

THE TOTAL PRECIPITATION OF 5.97 IS JUST A QUARTER OF AN INCH ABOVE NORMAL FOR
AUGUST. HIGHEST 24 HOUR AMOUNT WAS 0.79 INCHES ON THE 3RD.

WIND SPEEDS AVERAGED AROUND 7 MPH FROM THE SOUTHEAST. HIGHEST SPEED OCCURRED
ON THE 14TH WITH A SPEED OF 36 MPH.
