...JANUARY WAS MUCH WARMER THAN NORMAL IN OMAHA...

JANUARY BEGAN WITH NINE OF THE FIRST THIRTEEN DAYS COLDER THAN
NORMAL. THAT TREND STOPPED COLD ON THE 14TH AS THE NEXT EIGHTEEN
DAYS AVERAGED OVER 13 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL...THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE
IN JANUARY WAS 27.8 DEGREES...WHICH IS 4.3 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL.

NEAR NORMAL PRECIPITATION OCCURRED IN JANUARY...THE MONTHLY SNOWFALL
OF 4.1 INCHES WAS 2.0 INCHES BELOW NORMAL.

AFTER A FRIGID AND BREEZY START TO THE MONTH...WITH MORNING LOWS
AVERAGING 4 DEGREES...TEMPERATURES ROSE ABOVE AVERAGE ON THE 14TH
AND REMAINED THERE THROUGH THE END OF THE MONTH. A RECORD WARM
TEMPERATURE WAS TIED THE 28TH WHEN 59 DEGREES WAS RECORDED DURING
THE AFTERNOON. MEASURABLE PRECIPITATION FELL ON ONLY 4 DAYS IN
JANUARY...WITH THE MAJORITY ON THE FINAL DAY OF THE MONTH...WHEN
0.62 INCHES OF MOISTURE WAS RECORDED FROM A STORM THAT BROUGHT BOTH
RAIN AND SNOW TO THE AREA.

THE MOISTURE TOTAL FROM THE 1ST THROUGH THE 30TH WAS ONLY 0.07
INCHES. THE FIRST MEASURABLE SNOW OF THE MONTH FELL ON
THE 3RD...WITH 0.2 INCHES FALLING. THE BIGGEST SNOWFALL OF THE
MONTH BEGAN ON THE LAST DAY OF THE MONTH...WHEN 2.8 INCHES FELL
AT EPPLEY AIRPORT AND HIGHER AMOUNTS WERE REPORTED IN OTHER PARTS
OF THE METRO AREA.
