BULLETIN - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST REQUESTED
Flood Warning
National Weather Service Grand Rapids MI
1257 PM EST Sun Feb 18 2018

...The National Weather Service in Grand Rapids has issued a flood
warning for the following rivers in Southwest Lower Michigan...

Grand River Near Comstock Park affecting Kent County
Grand River At Robinson Township affecting Ottawa County
Sycamore Creek At Holt affecting Ingham County
Red Cedar River At East Lansing affecting Ingham County
Looking Glass River Near Eagle affecting Clinton County
Maple River At Maple Rapids affecting Clinton County
Portage River Near Vicksburg affecting Kalamazoo County

.Widespread rainfall is expected Monday morning through Wednesday
morning. Rain amounts between 1 and 3 inches are expected across all
of Southern Michigan, with locally higher amounts possible. Snow
melt will also continue. This will cause rapid rises on rivers,
creeks, and streams, and allow water to spill into low-lying areas
along rivers.

In addition, rainfall and warmer temperatures will increase the
likelihood for river ice to break up and travel down stream. Large
pieces of ice floating in the river may later pile up as they travel
downstream, particularly near bends in rivers. This could create ice
jams and increase the threat for flooding immediately upstream.

The following forecasts are based on observed and forecast 48 hour
precipitation. This forecast does not take into account rain that
will fall Tuesday night through Wednesday morning.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Safety message... Even 6 inches of fast-moving flood water can knock
you off your feet, and a depth of 2 feet will float your car. Never
try to walk, swim, or drive through such swift water. If you come
upon flood waters, stop, turn around and go another way.

This warning will be in effect until the river falls below its flood
stage.

Stay tuned to further developments by listening to your local
radio, television, or NOAA Weather Radio station for further
information.
