681 FNUS56 KLOX 082239 FWFLOX Fire Weather Planning Forecast For Southwestern California National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard CA 339 PM PDT Wed May 8 2024 ...LINGERING WEAK SANTA ANA WINDS INTO THURSDAY ACROSS WESTERN LOS ANGELES AND EASTERN VENTURA COUNTIES... .DISCUSSION... Breezy northeast to east Santa Ana winds this afternoon are expected to continue into Thursday morning. Peak wind gusts of 20-35 mph are expected through tonight, and gusts could reach up to 30 mph on Thursday. Winds failed to reach much past the Santa Clarita Valley today. Therefore, with the LAX-DAG offshore pressure gradient falling to near 0, these winds will be even more limited Thursday morning, likely confined to the interior and higher valleys. These offshore winds will be accompanied by warm, dry conditions with areas of minimum relative humidity of 8-15 percent at interior, high elevations and the Antelope Valley. Expecting 15-30 percent minimum relative humidities for most other areas away from the coast. The extent of marine layer clouds will trend up tonight, so there will be a stark contrast between conditions near the coast and over the interior. Moving into Friday and the weekend, marine layer clouds continue to expand in coverage near the coast, especially for LA County. A building ridge of high pressure may bring significant warming to mountains and deserts, that could persist into next week. Marine layer influence should temper warming trends for coasts and coastal valleys, but the dry airmass will linger over the interior into next week.
