FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR NW OREGON AND SW WASHINGTON
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PORTLAND OR
230 PM PDT TUE JUL 29 2014

...THUNDERSTORM THREAT OREGON CASCADES NEXT FEW DAYS...

.BROADCAST DISCUSSION...STRONG HIGH PRESSURE ALOFT WILL REMAIN OVER
THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST THROUGH THE WEEK. MOISTURE MOVING NORTH FROM
CALIFORNIA AND NEVADA WILL BE ENOUGH TO WARRANT A THREAT OF
THUNDERSTORM OVER THE HIGHER OREGON CASCADES FOR THE NEXT FEW DAYS.

.DISCUSSION...STRONG HIGH PRESSURE ALOFT WILL DOMINATE THE WEATHER
PATTERN FOR THE NEXT FEW DAYS. MOISTURE DRIFTING NORTH ALONG THE
WESTERN PERIPHERY OF THE FOUR-CORNERS HIGH WILL RESULT IN THE THREAT
OF THUNDERSTORMS FOR THE HIGHER OREGON CASCADES THROUGH FRIDAY.
MODELS SHOW AN UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE MOVING ACROSS CENTRAL OREGON
LATE THURSDAY FOR AN ENHANCED THREAT OF STORMS THAT HAVE THE
POTENTIAL TO PERSIST THROUGH MUCH OF THE NIGHT. THE CENTRAL OREGON
CASCADES WILL HAVE THE HIGHEST CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY.
SUBSIDENCE INVERSIONS WILL CONTINUE TO RESULT IN POOR TO MODERATE
HUMIDITY RECOVERY IN THE HIGHER TERRAIN. THE ONSHORE LOW-LEVEL FLOW
BECOMES A LITTLE STRONGER LATE IN THE WEEK FOR A SLIGHT COOLING
TREND. THUNDERSTORM POTENTIAL EXTENDS TO THE SOUTH WASHINGTON
CASCADES OVER THE WEEKEND.
