FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR UTAH
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SALT LAKE CITY UT
308 PM MDT MON JUL 21 2014

...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 10 PM MDT TUESDAY FOR WIND
AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY FOR FIRE WEATHER ZONES 492 AND 495
AND FIRE WEATHER ZONE 478 BELOW 7000 FEET......

.BROADCAST DISCUSSION...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS
WILL CONTINUE ACROSS WESTERN UTAH INTO THIS EVENING...AND
DEVELOP AGAIN TOMORROW AFTERNOON. MOISTURE WILL INCREASE
ACROSS SOUTHERN AND EASTERN UTAH WEDNESDAY...RESULTING
IN TERRAIN BASED CONVECTION. HIGH PRESSURE WILL BUILD
OVER THE STATE THIS WEEKEND...BRINGING A WARMING...DRYING
TREND AND TERRAIN DRIVEN WINDS.

.DISCUSSION...THE MAIN CONCERN FOR THE FORECAST PERIOD IS
THE POTENTIAL FOR CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS TO
DEVELOP ACROSS WESTERN UTAH TODAY AND TOMORROW AFTERNOON DUE
TO GUSTY WINDS AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY. A RED FLAG WARNING HAS
BEEN ISSUED FOR WESTERN UTAH THROUGH TOMORROW EVENING. IT IS
POSSIBLE THAT WIND SPEEDS WILL BE JUST BELOW CRITICAL
VALUES TOMORROW AFTERNOON ACROSS WESTERN UTAH. HOWEVER...THE
POTENTIAL FOR STRONGER UPPER LEVEL WINDS TO MIX TO THE
SURFACE IS OF CONCERN...AND SO UPGRADED THE WATCH TO A
WARNING FOR TOMORROW.

MOISTURE WILL INCREASE ACROSS SOUTHERN AND EASTERN UTAH
WEDNESDAY...RESULTING IN AFTERNOON SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS
OVER THE HIGHER TERRAIN. ACROSS NORTHWESTERN UTAH ON WEDNESDAY
THERE IS THE POTENTIAL FOR WINDS TO REACH CRITICAL LEVELS...BUT
CONFIDENCE IS NOT HIGH ENOUGH AT THIS TIME TO WARRANT
ISSUING ANY HIGHLIGHTS FOR NORTHWESTERN UTAH ON WEDNESDAY.

HIGH PRESSURE WILL BUILD OVER THE FORECAST AREA FRIDAY INTO THE
WEEKEND...BRINGING A PERIOD WITH WARMING TEMPERATURES...DRY
CONDITIONS...AND TERRAIN DRIVEN WINDS.

***THUNDERSTORMS IMPLY STRONG GUSTY AND ERRATIC WINDS***
***ALL WINDS ARE 20 FOOT...10-MINUTE AVERAGES***
