PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT...UPDATED
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PEACHTREE CITY GA

...NWS DAMAGE SURVEY FOR 10/14/14 TORNADO EVENT- UPDATE 2...

DURING THE EARLY MORNING HOURS OF OCTOBER 14TH...A LINE OF
THUNDERSTORMS MOVED THROUGH PARTS OF WESTCENTRAL GEORGIA AND
CONTINUED INTO THE ATLANTA METRO. A LOW LEVEL WIND JET DEVELOPED ON
THE BACK SIDE OF THIS LINE WHICH IS CONDUCIVE FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF
SHORT LIVED TORNADOES.

THE FIRST TORNADO TOUCHED DOWN IN HARRIS COUNTY AROUND 440 AM EDT
JUST SOUTHWEST OF SHILOH AND TRAVELED NORTHEAST FOR ALMOST 6 MILES
ACROSS NORTHWEST TALBOT AND SOUTHERN MERIWETHER COUNTIES. A HOME ON
THE SOUTH FACE OF PINE MOUNTAIN OFF OF SKYLINE DR SOUTHWEST OF
MANCHESTER LOST PART OF ITS ROOF AND DESTROYED A LARGE SHED.

AS THE LINE APPROACHED SOUTHWEST ATLANTA...TWO BRIEF TORNADOES
TOUCHED DOWN ABOUT 2 TO 3 MILES APART NEAR THE EAST POINT AND CAMP
CREEK PARKWAY AREAS. THESE EF0 TORNADOES PERSISTED FOR SEVERAL MILES
CAUSING MAINLY MINOR TREE DAMAGE BEFORE LIFTING BRIEFLY.

ANOTHER TORNADO WAS THEN GENERATED NEAR THE VININGS AREA...ALSO AN
EF0 TORNADO WITH TOP WINDS OF 80 MPH AND LIKEWISE CAUSING TREE
DAMAGE AND SOME MINOR HOUSE DAMAGE DUE TO THE TREES FALLING ON THEM.
THE TORNADO WOULD THEN LIFT ONCE AGAIN BEFORE DEVELOPING INTO AN EF1
IN EAST COBB ALONG THE FULTON COUNTY LINE. PEAK WINDS OF 100 MPH
CAUSED MORE EXTENSIVE TREE DAMAGE THAN THE PREVIOUS TORNADOES AND
LIKEWISE CAUSED SOME MINOR ROOF DAMAGE AS WELL.

AFTER LARGELY SPARING THE ROSWELL COMMUNITY...THE TORNADO
DEVELOPED A FINAL TIME OVER THE ALPHARETTA WHERE THE MOST
EXTENSIVE DAMAGE OCCURRED WITH EXTENSIVE TREE DAMAGE INCLUDING
NUMEROUS LARGE HARDWOODS BEING SNAPPED. THERE WAS ADDITIONAL
ROOF DAMAGE TO HOMES IN THE AREA CAUSED MAINLY BY TREES FALLING ON
THE HOMES.

IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT THE TORNADOES ALTHOUGH SEMI CONTINUOUS
WERE ALL SPAWNED BY THE SAME STORM THAT MOVED THROUGH THE AREA.
