HYDROLOGIC STATEMENT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MARQUETTE MI
447 AM EDT TUE APR 22 2014

...RIVER LEVELS ARE HIGH DUE TO RECENT SNOW MELT BUT ARE EXPECTED TO
REMAIN BELOW FLOOD STAGE...

INCREASED DISCHARGE FROM THE PRICKETT DAM DUE TO HIGH SNOW MELT
RUNOFF THE LAST FEW DAYS HAS CAUSED THE STURGEON RIVER AT ALSTON TO
RISE TO NEAR BANKFULL. AT 2 AM EARLY TUESDAY MORNING...THE RIVER
LEVEL CRESTED AT 7.79 FEET. BANKFULL AND FLOOD STAGE IS 8.0 FEET.

SINCE COLDER AIR IS INVADING UPPER MICHIGAN...SNOW MELT THE NEXT FEW
DAYS WILL DIMINISH. DISCHARGE FROM THE PRICKETT DAM SHOULD ALSO
DIMINISH AS WELL. THE FORECAST IS FOR THE RIVER LEVEL TO SLOWLY
SUBSIDE THE NEXT FEW DAYS.

SAFETY MESSAGE...RESIDENTS ALONG THE STURGEON RIVER DOWNSTREAM OF THE
ALSTON GAUGE SITE SHOULD REMAIN ALERT AND EXERCISE CAUTION WHEN
WALKING NEAR THE RIVER IN CASE RIVER LEVELS HAPPEN TO RISE AGAIN.

STAY TUNED TO NOAA WEATHER RADIO OR YOUR FAVORITE MEDIA OUTLET FOR
FURTHER DEVELOPMENTS AND INFORMATION FROM THE NATIONAL WEATHER
SERVICE.
