...A TROPICAL CYCLONE FORMATION ALERT HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR A
CIRCULATION CENTERED 230 MILES NORTHEAST OF POHNPEI...

THE JOINT TYPHOON WARNING CENTER HAS ISSUED A FORMATION ALERT FOR A
CIRCULATION CENTERED NEAR 9N160E...WHICH IS 230 MILES NORTHEAST OF
POHNPEI AND 335 MILES NORTHWEST OF KOSRAE. THIS MEANS THE FORMATION
OF A SIGNIFICANT TROPICAL CYCLONE IS POSSIBLE WITHIN THE NEXT 12 TO
24 HOURS. COMPUTER MODELS INDICATE THE DISTURBANCE WILL STRENGTHEN
AND GRADUALLY MOVE TOWARD THE WEST-NORTHWEST IN THE COMING DAYS.

FOR POHNPEI...NUMEROUS SHOWERS AND A FEW THUNDERSTORMS ALONG WITH
GUSTY WINDS OF 20 TO 30 MPH ARE AFFECTING POHNPEI STATE...MAINLY
BETWEEN 6N AND 12N FROM 155E TO 162E. SEA CONDITIONS ARE HAZARDOUS
FOR THE OPERATION OF SMALL CRAFT ACROSS POHNPEI STATE WITH COMBINED
SEAS OF 7 TO 10 FEET AND NEAR 12 FEET TO THE NORTHEAST OF POHNPEI.
THE POHNPEI WEATHER OFFICE HAS RECEIVED ABOUT 4 INCHES OF RAINFALL
SINCE MONDAY MORNING...AND LOCATIONS IN THE MOUNTAINS HAVE PROBABLY
RECEIVED MUCH MORE RAINFALL.

OTHERWISE...ACTIVE MONSOON WEATHER CONTINUES ACROSS MICRONESIA WITH
ANOTHER CIRCULATION CENTERED 260 MILES WEST-NORTHWEST OF CHUUK AT
ABOUT 9N148E. SCATTERED SHOWERS AND ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS FROM YAP
STATE TO CHUUK ARE BETWEEN 4N AND 10N FROM 143E TO 152E. WENO CHUUK
HAS RECEIVED ABOUT 3 INCHES OF RAINFALL SINCE MONDAY MORNING.

ADDITIONAL RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF 3 TO 6 INCHES ARE LIKELY FOR MANY OF
THE ISLANDS OF POHNPEI AND CHUUK STATES TODAY THROUGH TONIGHT. THE
THREAT OF FLOODING AND MUDSLIDES WILL INCREASE FOR THE HIGH ISLANDS
OF CHUUK AND POHNPEI STATES.

WESTERLY MONSOON WINDS OF 15 TO 30 MPH AND LARGE WAVES OF 7 TO 10
FEET AND UP TO 12 FEET WILL CONTINUE ACROSS MUCH OF MICRONESIA THIS
WEEK. SEA CONDITIONS WILL BE HAZARDOUS FOR THE OPERATION OF SMALL
CRAFT AND DANGEROUS FOR INTER-ISLAND TRAVEL.

RESIDENTS OF CHUUK...POHNPEI AND KOSRAE STATES SHOULD MONITOR THIS
SITUATION CLOSELY AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS...AND INSTRUCTIONS
FROM LOCAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT OFFICES.
