...Forecast Flooding Changed from Moderate to Major Severity for the
following rivers in Southwest Lower Michigan...

  Chippewa River Below Mt Pleasant affecting Isabella County

.The Chippewa River in Mount Pleasant continues to rapidly rise this
afternoon. Major flood stage is now expected to be reached by this
evening. This will likely be the worst flood since September 1986,
though the current forecast keeps the crest 2 feet below the 1986
crest. The following forecast is based on observed and forecast 24
hour precipitation.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Safety message...Even 6 inches of fast-moving flood water can knock
you off your feet... and a depth of 2 feet will float your car.
Never try to walk... swim... or drive through such swift water.  If
you come upon flood waters... stop... turn around and go another way.

This warning will be in effect until the river falls below its flood
stage.

...Forecast flooding increased from Moderate to Major severity...
The flood warning continues for
  the Chippewa River Below Mt Pleasant.
* until Tuesday afternoon.
* At 1:15 PM Friday the stage was 11.7 feet.
* Flood stage is 8.0 feet.
* Moderate Flooding is occurring and Major flooding is forecast.
* Forecast, the river will continue rising to near 13.5 feet by this
  evening. The river will fall below flood stage Tuesday morning.
* Impact, above 11 feet, moderate flooding of residences in the north
  part of Mt Pleasant occurs.
* Flood history, this crest compares to a previous crest of 13.9 feet
  on Mar 30 1916.
