High Surf Advisory

Coastal Hazard Message
National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard CA
113 AM PST Tue Jan 23 2018

...HIGH SURF FOR CENTRAL COAST BEACHES THROUGH TUESDAY MORNING...

.A long period northwest swell moving through the northern coastal
waters will continue to produce high surf along the Central Coast,
highest on west to northwest facing beaches. The high surf is now
expected to persist through late this morning. Strong rip currents
will be widespread, and minor coastal flooding will be possible,
especially during high tide.

...HIGH SURF ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 AM PST THIS
MORNING...

* SURF AND TIMING...Surf of 10 to 13 feet will diminish this
morning, and will subside below 10 feet by this afternoon.

* IMPACTS...There is an increased risk of ocean drowning. Rip
currents can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea. Large
breaking waves can cause injury...wash people off beaches and
rocks...and capsize small boats near shore.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A High Surf Advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in
the advisory area...producing localized beach erosion and
dangerous swimming conditions. Swim near a lifeguard. If caught
in a rip current, relax and float. Don`t swim against the
current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If
unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
