COASTAL HAZARD MESSAGE
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE LOS ANGELES/OXNARD CA
135 AM PDT FRI MAR 27 2015

...ELEVATED SURF AND STRONG RIP CURRENTS ALONG SOUTH FACING
BEACHES OF SOUTHWEST CALIFORNIA THROUGH THE WEEKEND...

.A LONG PERIOD SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE SWELL WILL CONTINUE TO MOVE
INTO THE COASTAL WATERS TODAY. THIS WILL BRING RISING SURF AND AN
INCREASING RISK OF STRONG RIP CURRENTS AND SNEAKER WAVES TO AREA
BEACHES THROUGH THE WEEKEND. THE LARGEST SURF IS EXPECTED ALONG
SOUTHERLY FACING BEACHES LATE FRIDAY THROUGH SUNDAY...AND ELEVATED
SURF MAY PERSIST THROUGH MONDAY. RIP CURRENTS WILL LIKELY BE MORE
FREQUENT AND STRONGER THAN USUAL...AND THERE WILL BE STRONG LONG-
SHORE CURRENTS AS WELL. SNEAKER WAVES ARE MOST LIKELY EARLY IN THE
EVENT AS THE LONGER PERIOD SWELLS ARRIVE. BEACH GOERS MAY SEE
LULLS IN WAVE ACTIVITY BROKEN BY MUCH LARGER WAVES THAT APPEAR
SUDDENLY. AVOID WALKING ON ROCKS OR JETTIES NEAR THE WATERS EDGE
AND NEVER TURN YOUR BACK ON THE OCEAN.

* TIDES...THE NEXT HIGH TIDE ABOUT 4 FEET IS EXPECTED AROUND 4 AM

  NOON PDT.

* IMPACTS...ELEVATED SURF WILL BRING STRONG RIP CURRENTS AND

SNEAKER WAVES. LONG PERIOD SWELL ALSO CAUSES MORE POWERFUL
SURF AND A POTENTIAL FOR MINOR BEACH EROSION DURING TIMES OF
  HIGH TIDE.
