URGENT - WEATHER MESSAGE
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE LOS ANGELES/OXNARD CA
1002 PM PST FRI DEC 2 2016

...STRONG AND DAMAGING SANTA ANA WINDS EXPECTED THROUGH
SATURDAY...

.A STRONG SANTA ANA WIND EVENT WILL AFFECT MOST OF LOS ANGELES
AND VENTURA COUNTIES THROUGH SATURDAY. THE STRONGEST WINDS WILL
BE IN THE MOUNTAINS...INCLUDING THE SANTA MONICA MOUNTAINS WHERE
DAMAGING PEAK GUSTS TO 75 MPH ARE EXPECTED. THE SANTA CLARITA
VALLEY AND EASTERN PORTION OF THE VENTURA COUNTY VALLEYS WILL HAVE
DAMAGING WIND GUSTS TO 60 MPH. WIND ADVISORIES ARE IN EFFECT FOR
THE REMAINDER OF LOS ANGELES AND VENTURA COUNTIES THROUGH
SATURDAY WHERE GUSTS OF 40 TO 50 MPH ARE EXPECTED. ISOLATED
DAMAGING GUSTS TO 60 MPH ARE POSSIBLE NEAR FAVORED FOOTHILL
LOCATIONS IN THE NORTHWEST PORTION OF THE SAN FERNANDO VALLEY.

SUB-FREEZING OVERNIGHT LOWS ARE EXPECTED ACROSS INTERIOR SAN LUIS
OBISPO COUNTY LATE TONIGHT AND SATURDAY MORNING.

* WINDS AND TIMING...NORTH TO NORTHEAST WINDS WILL INCREASE
  OVERNIGHT TO 20 TO 35 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 50 MPH BELOW PASSES AND
  CANYONS FROM MALIBU THROUGH THE HOLLYWOOD HILLS. THE WINDS WILL
  CONTINUE THROUGH EARLY SATURDAY AFTERNOON...THEN SLOWLY
  DIMINISH.

* IMPACTS...GUSTY WINDS WILL MAKE DRIVING DIFFICULT...ESPECIALLY
  FOR DRIVERS OF HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES. WINDS THIS STRONG CAN
  CAUSE DOWNED TREES AND POWERLINES AS WELL AS POWER OUTAGES.
  GUSTY WINDS WILL AFFECT TRAVEL ON PACIFIC COAST HIGHWAY FROM
  MALIBU THROUGH PACIFIC PALISADES.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS OVER THE LOS ANGELES INTERIOR
MOUNTAINS ON SATURDAY...

.A STRONG SANTA ANA WIND EVENT WITH COLD BUT DRY AIR WILL RESULT
IN CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS OVER THE COASTAL AND VALLEY
AREAS OF LOS ANGELES AND VENTURA COUNTY THROUGH SATURDAY
AFTERNOON. THE MOUNTAINS WILL ALSO EXPERIENCE STRONG WINDS THOUGH
AMPLE COLD AIR SHOULD KEEP HUMIDITIES ABOVE CRITICAL LEVELS UNTIL
SATURDAY.

* WINDS...NORTH TO NORTHEAST WINDS 15 TO 30 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 45
  MPH THROUGH SATURDAY AFTERNOON.

* RELATIVE HUMIDITY...6 TO 12 PERCENT...LOWEST ON SATURDAY.

* IMPACTS...IF FIRE IGNITION OCCURS...CONDITIONS MAY BE
  FAVORABLE FOR EXTREME FIRE BEHAVIOR WHICH WOULD THREATEN LIFE
  AND PROPERTY. USE EXTRA CAUTION WITH POTENTIAL IGNITION
  SOURCES.
