Beach Hazards Statement

COASTAL HAZARD MESSAGE...UPDATED
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAN DIEGO CA
358 PM PDT THU AUG 28 2014

UPDATED TO EXTEND THE BEACH HAZARD STATEMENT FOR SAN DIEGO BEACHES
THROUGH FRIDAY

...HIGH SURF ADVISORY FOR ORANGE COUNTY BEACHES THROUGH 8 PM
FRIDAY...

...BEACH HAZARD STATEMENT FOR STRONG RIP CURRENTS FOR THE SAN
DIEGO BEACHES THROUGH 8 PM FRIDAY...

.THE LARGE SWELL FROM TROPICAL STORM MARIE WILL GRADUALLY DECREASE
TONIGHT AND FRIDAY. HOWEVER...THE SURF WILL REMAIN ABOVE AVERAGE
AND STRONG RIP CURRENTS WILL CONTINUE AT THE BEACHES THROUGH
FRIDAY EVENING.

IN ORANGE COUNTY THE SURF HEIGHTS THIS EVENING AND TONIGHT WILL
RANGE FROM 6 TO 8 FEET WITH SETS TO 10 FEET. ON FRIDAY THE SURF
WILL DECREASE TO 4 TO 6 FEET WITH SETS TO 8 FEET. HIGHER SURF WILL
BREAK AT THE WEDGE.

IN SAN DIEGO COUNTY THE SURF HEIGHTS THIS EVENING AND TONIGHT WILL
RANGE FROM 4 TO 6 FEET. ON FRIDAY THE SURF WILL DECREASE TO 3 TO
5 FEET. HOWEVER...THE RIP CURRENTS AND LONGSHORE CURRENTS WILL
REMAIN STRONG.

WHILE THE SURF WILL CONTINUE TO SUBSIDE SATURDAY...ABOVE AVERAGE
SURF OF 4 TO 6 FEET WILL CONTINUE AT THE ORANGE COUNTY BEACHES.

* SURF AND TIMING...THIS EVENING AND TONIGHT...4 TO 6 FEET WITH
  HIGHEST SURF NORTH OF OCEANSIDE. FRIDAY...3 TO 5 FEET WITH THE
  HIGHEST SURF NORTH OF OCEANSIDE.

* IMPACTS...HAZARDOUS SURFING AND SWIMMING CONDITIONS FROM STRONG
  RIP CURRENTS AND STRONG LONGSHORE CURRENTS.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A BEACH HAZARDS STATEMENT IS ISSUED WHEN THREATS SUCH AS STRONG
RIP CURRENTS...ELEVATED SURF HEIGHTS...MINOR TIDAL OVERFLOW...OR
LIGHTNING ARE POSSIBLE AT LOCAL BEACHES. OBEY POSTED WARNING
SIGNS AND FLAGS AND TALK TO A LIFEGUARD BEFORE SWIMMING. USE
CAUTION WHEN IN OR NEAR THE WATER AND ALWAYS SWIM NEAR A
LIFEGUARD.
