COASTAL HAZARD MESSAGE
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAN DIEGO CA
111 AM PDT TUE MAY 31 2016

...SOUTH SWELL TO BRING ABOVE NORMAL SURF AND STRONG RIP CURRENTS
TO SOUTH FACING BEACHES IN ORANGE AND SAN DIEGO COUNTIES
WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY...

.A LONG PERIOD SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE SWELL WILL BRING ABOVE NORMAL
SURF TO SOUTH AND SOUTHWEST FACING BEACHES WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY
AND STRONG RIP CURRENTS. THE SWELL WILL BE AROUND 4 FEET WITH A
PERIOD OF 14 TO 17 SECONDS... AND THIS WILL RESULT IN SURF OF
4 TO 6 FEET NORTH OF CARLSBAD IN SAN DIEGO COUNTY AND IN ORANGE
COUNTY WITH LOCAL SETS TO 8 FEET IN ORANGE COUNTY. THERE WILL BE
LONGSHORE CURRENTS AT TIMES ON WEST FACING BEACHES OF SAN DIEGO
COUNTY. THE SURF WILL DIMINISH THURSDAY NIGHT.

MORNING THROUGH THURSDAY EVENING...

* SWELL AND SURF...A 4 FOOT LONG-PERIOD SOUTHERLY SWELL FROM 190
  DEGREES WILL GENERATE 4 TO 6 FOOT SURF ON SOUTH AND SOUTHWEST
  FACING BEACHES WITH LOCAL SETS TO 8 FEET. IN SAN DIEGO
  COUNTY... SOUTH OF CARLSBAD... MOST OF THE SURF WILL BE 3 TO 5
  FEET.

* TIMING...WEDNESDAY THROUGH THURSDAY

* IMPACTS...STRONG AND DANGEROUS RIP CURRENTS ARE LIKELY TO
  ACCOMPANY THE ELEVATED SURF. STRONG LONGSHORE CURRENTS MAY ALSO
  DEVELOP ALONG THE WEST FACING BEACHES OF SAN DIEGO COUNTY.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A BEACH HAZARDS STATEMENT IS ISSUED WHEN THREATS SUCH AS STRONG
RIP CURRENTS...ELEVATED SURF HEIGHTS...MINOR TIDAL OVERFLOW...OR
LIGHTNING ARE POSSIBLE AT LOCAL BEACHES. OBEY POSTED WARNING
SIGNS AND FLAGS AND TALK TO A LIFEGUARD BEFORE SWIMMING. USE
CAUTION WHEN IN OR NEAR THE WATER AND ALWAYS SWIM NEAR A
LIFEGUARD.
