...FLASH FLOOD WATCH THROUGH THIS EVENING...

.A LARGE LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM NEAR THE WEST COAST WILL MOVE SLOWLY
INLAND THROUGH TUESDAY. MUCH COLDER AIR ALOFT WILL SPREAD
SOUTHWARD ACROSS SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA TODAY. THIS IS EXPECTED TO
INCREASE SHOWER COVERAGE AND INTENSITY TODAY...ESPECIALLY FOR
LATE MORNING INTO THE AFTERNOON...AND BRING A SLIGHT CHANCE OF
THUNDERSTORMS WITH SMALL HAIL. THIS WILL BRING THE POSSIBILITY OF
FLASH FLOODING...MAINLY TO COASTAL AND VALLEY AREAS AND THE LOWER
ELEVATIONS OF THE MOUNTAINS.

THE FLASH FLOOD WATCH CONTINUES FOR

* A PORTION OF SOUTHWEST CALIFORNIA...INCLUDING THE FOLLOWING
  AREAS...COACHELLA VALLEY...SAN DIEGO COUNTY COASTAL AREAS...
  SAN DIEGO COUNTY DESERTS...SAN DIEGO COUNTY MOUNTAINS AND SAN
  DIEGO COUNTY VALLEYS.

* THROUGH THIS EVENING

* SOILS ARE NEARLY SATURATED FROM RECENT HEAVY RAINFALL. PERIODS
  OF SHOWERS WILL CONTINUE THROUGH THIS EVENING WITH BRIEF HEAVY
  RAINFALL. BANDS OF SHOWERS...STRONGER SHOWERS WITH HEAVIER
  RAINFALL...AND ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS HAVE GREATER POTENTIAL TO
  CAUSE URBAN AND SMALL STREAM FLOODING AND ISOLATED FLASH
  FLOODING. HEAVY RAINFALL OVER RECENT BURN SCARS COULD RESULT IN
  DEBRIS FLOWS AND MUD SLIDES.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A FLASH FLOOD WATCH MEANS THAT CONDITIONS MAY DEVELOP THAT LEAD
TO FLASH FLOODING. FLASH FLOODING IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION.

YOU SHOULD MONITOR LATER FORECASTS AND BE PREPARED TO TAKE ACTION
SHOULD FLASH FLOOD WARNINGS BE ISSUED.

The Flood Warning continues for The Santa Margarita River at Ysidora
* Through early this afternoon
* At 1 AM PST today the stage was 13.3 feet
* Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast
* Flood stage is 10.8 feet
* At 13.3 feet, Moderate flood stage, 22,000 cfs. Vandegrift Road is flooded
for several miles downstream of the gage site. Stuart Mesa bridge has been
overtopped, and Stuart Mesa Road is flooded.
* Flood History...this crest compares to a previous crest of 12.4 feet on Feb 23 1998.
