Coastal Hazard Message National Weather Service Baltimore MD/Washington DC 435 AM EDT Wed May 8 2024 DCZ001-081500- /O.CON.KLWX.CF.Y.0058.240508T1100Z-240508T1500Z/ District of Columbia- 435 AM EDT Wed May 8 2024 ...COASTAL FLOOD ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 AM EDT THIS MORNING... * WHAT...Up to one half foot of inundation above ground level expected in low lying areas due to tidal flooding. * WHERE...Shoreline in the District of Columbia. * WHEN...Until 11 AM EDT this morning, especially around the time of high tide. * IMPACTS...Shoreline inundation is expected along portions of the seawall adjacent to Ohio Drive and the Hains Point Loop Road, and near the Tidal Basin and Jefferson Memorial. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Tides between one half foot and one foot above normal. The next high tide at Washington Channel is at 8:40 AM. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... If travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may be closed. Special Marine Warnings may be needed for portions of the waters this afternoon and evening for strong to severe storms capable of producing wind gusts over 34 knots and large hail. .DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Thursday through Tuesday Scattered severe thunderstorms capable of producing damaging wind gusts and large hail are likely Thursday afternoon. There is the potential for considerable wind damage from 70 mph gusts and large hail. Special Marine Warnings may be needed for portions of the waters Thursday for strong to severe storms capable of producing wind gusts over 34 knots and large hail.
