THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN CHICAGO HAS ISSUED A

* FLOOD WARNING FOR...
  CENTRAL COOK COUNTY IN NORTHEAST ILLINOIS...
  DUPAGE COUNTY IN NORTHEAST ILLINOIS...

* UNTIL 230 PM CDT FRIDAY

* AT 819 AM CDT...LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIALS REPORTED FLOODING
  ACROSS THE WARNED AREA. NUMEROUS COMMUNITIES ARE UNDER SEVERAL
  FEET OF WATER WITH SOME LOCATIONS STILL REPORTING SLOW RISES OF
  THE WATER LEVELS. OVERNIGHT AND THIS MORNING...RADAR ESTIMATES AND
  OBSERVATIONS INDICATE THAT FOUR TO FIVE INCHES OF RAIN HAS FALLEN
  WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS.

* SOME LOCATIONS THAT WILL EXPERIENCE FLOODING INCLUDE...ADDISON...
  HINSDALE...ELMHURST...WOOD DALE...BURBANK...OAK LAWN...BEDFORD
  PARK...ALONG WITH OTHER LOCATIONS ALONG THE SALT CREEK AND ADDISON
  CREEK.


PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

EXCESSIVE RUNOFF FROM HEAVY RAINFALL WILL CAUSE FLOODING OF SMALL
CREEKS AND STREAMS...URBAN AREAS...HIGHWAYS...STREETS AND UNDERPASSES
AS WELL AS OTHER DRAINAGE AREAS AND LOW LYING SPOTS.

DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE
ROADWAY. THE WATER DEPTH MAY BE TOO GREAT TO ALLOW YOUR CAR TO CROSS
SAFELY.

.TORRENTIAL RAINFALL OF 2 TO 4 INCHES ACROSS NORTHEAST ILLINOIS IS
RESULTING IN RISES ON PORTIONS OF THE DES PLAINES AND DU PAGE
RIVERS.

* FLOOD STAGE IS 11.5 FEET.
* MINOR FLOODING IS FORECAST.
* FORECAST...THE RIVER IS EXPECTED TO RISE TO NEAR FLOOD STAGE THIS
  AFTERNOON.

NORTHEAST ILLINOIS AND NORTHWEST INDIANA.

.DAY ONE...TODAY AND TONIGHT.

  WEATHER HAZARDS EXPECTED:

   SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS...SOME COULD PRODUCE:
    TORRENTIAL RAINFALL AND FLASH FLOODING.
    FREQUENT CLOUD TO GROUND LIGHTNING.
    WIND GUSTS TO 50 MPH.
    NICKEL SIZE HAIL.

   AREAS AFFECTED AND TIMING:

   THUNDERSTORMS WITH HEAVY RAIN SOUTH OF INTERSTATE 80 WILL END
   THIS MORNING. ADDITIONAL THUNDERSTORMS ARE POSSIBLE THIS
   AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT...THOUGH CONFIDENCE REGARDING COVERAGE
   AND TIMING IS SOMEWHAT UNCERTAIN.

   DISCUSSION:

   VERY WARM AND HUMID AIR WILL REMAIN IN PLACE AS AN UPPER LEVEL
   RIDGE SLOWLY BUILDS ACROSS THE REGION. THUNDERSTORMS ARE
   POSSIBLE TODAY AND TONIGHT. THE MAIN THREAT FROM THESE STORMS
   WILL BE TORRENTIAL RAINFALL WHICH MAY LEAD TO FLASH FLOODING.
   WITH THE SOIL SATURATED IN MANY AREAS...ANY ADDITIONAL HEAVY
   RAIN MAY QUICKLY LEAD TO FLASH FLOODING. RAINFALL RATES WITH
   ANY THUNDERSTORMS THAT DEVELOP COULD REACH 2 TO 3 INCHES PER
   HOUR.

DENSE FOG WILL BE POSSIBLE EARLY THIS MORNING ACROSS FAR NORTHEAST
ILLINOIS.

HEAT INDICES WILL APPROACH 100 DEGREES AWAY FROM LAKE MICHIGAN
THIS AFTERNOON.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...SATURDAY THROUGH THURSDAY.

THERE IS A CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS SATURDAY AND SATURDAY NIGHT...
SUNDAY AFTERNOON...THEN MONDAY THROUGH THURSDAY. HEAVY RAIN AND
FLASH FLOODING WILL BE POSSIBLE WITH ANY THUNDERSTORMS THAT
DEVELOP.

HEAT INDICES COULD EXCEED 100 DEGREES SUNDAY AND MONDAY AFTERNOONS.
