...THE URBAN AND SMALL STREAM FLOOD ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL
930 PM CDT FOR NORTHEASTERN KENDALL...NORTHERN WILL...SOUTHERN
KANE...DUPAGE AND SOUTH CENTRAL COOK COUNTIES...

At 713 PM CDT, trained weather spotters reported heavy rain and
street flooding due to thunderstorms earlier this afternoon. Up to
two inches of rain fell, but no additional rain is expected tonight.

Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Aurora, Joliet, Naperville, Bolingbrook, Orland Park, Tinley Park,
Oak Lawn, Wheaton, Downers Grove, Elmhurst, Lombard, Carol Stream,
Romeoville, Plainfield, Addison, St. Charles, Oswego, Chicago
Heights, Glen Ellyn and West Chicago.

Including the following interstates...
 I-55 between mile markers 252 and 281.
 I-57 between mile markers 334 and 348.
 I-80 between mile markers 128 and 155.
 I-88 between mile markers 111 and 140.
 I-290 between mile markers 12 and 16.
 I-355 between mile markers 1 and 30.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as
well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.

WEATHER HAZARDS EXPECTED:
  Limited Thunderstorm Risk...with an associated:
      Limited Hail Risk...up to nickel size.
      Limited Thunderstorm Wind Damage Risk...up to 55 MPH.

DISCUSSION:

Scattered thunderstorms are likely this evening. A couple of the
storms could become strong to marginally severe, some with
localized hail and gusty winds.

In addition...flooding is expected to continue on many area
rivers.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Monday through Saturday.

Monday...
   High Swim Risk.
Wednesday...
   Elevated Thunderstorm Risk.
Thursday...
   Elevated Thunderstorm Risk.
   High Swim Risk.

* STRONG RIP CURRENTS AND STRUCTURAL CURRENTS EXPECTED.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

LIFE THREATENING WAVES AND CURRENTS ARE EXPECTED AT THE BEACHES.
PEOPLE VISITING THE BEACHES SHOULD STAY OUT OF THE WATER.

RIP CURRENTS ARE POWERFUL CHANNELS OF WATER FLOWING QUICKLY AWAY
FROM SHORE, WHICH OCCUR MOST OFTEN AT LOW SPOTS OR BREAKS IN
SANDBARS. RIP CURRENTS CAN SWEEP YOU INTO DEEPER WATER.

STRUCTURAL CURRENTS FORM ALONG PIERS WHERE LONGSHORE CURRENTS AND
WAVE ACTION FLOW INTO THE STRUCTURE. STRUCTURAL CURRENTS CAN
SWEEP YOU INTO DEEPER WATER ALONG THE PIER STRUCTURE.

EXPOSED BEACHES ARE MORE LIKELY TO EXPERIENCE THE MOST
SIGNIFICANT WAVE AND CURRENT IMPACTS. IMPACTS AT BEACHES WITH
PROTECTIVE BREAKWALLS OR JETTIES WILL BE SUBJECT TO THE
ORIENTATION OF STRUCTURES AS WELL AS WIND AND WAVE DIRECTION.

* until Wednesday morning.
* At  745 AM Sunday the stage was 18.2 feet.
* Flood stage is 15.0 feet.
* Moderate flooding is occurring and Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...The river will continue to fall to below flood stage by
  early Wednesday morning.
* Impact...At 18.5 feet...Flood waters affect residential areas of Big
  Bend Drive, Mason Lane, River Road, and Howard.
