THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN CHICAGO HAS ISSUED A HEAT
ADVISORY...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM CDT /NOON EDT/ THIS
MORNING TO 7 PM CDT /8 PM EDT/ THIS EVENING.

* TEMPERATURE...HIGHS IN THE LOW 90S.

* MAXIMUM HEAT INDEX VALUES...96 TO 111 DEGREES.

* IMPACTS...TEMPERATURES AND MOISTURE THIS HIGH COULD LEAD TO
  HEAT RELATED ILLNESSES WITH PROLONGED EXPOSURE. THE ELDERLY...
  SMALL CHILDREN AND PETS ARE ESPECIALLY SUSCEPTIBLE. PLAN
  AHEAD. HAVE A COOL PLACE TO SHELTER FROM THE HEAT. AVOID
  OUTDOOR ACTIVITY DURING THE AFTERNOON.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A HEAT ADVISORY MEANS THAT A PERIOD OF HOT TEMPERATURES IS
EXPECTED. THE COMBINATION OF HOT TEMPERATURES AND HIGH HUMIDITY
WILL COMBINE TO CREATE A SITUATION IN WHICH HEAT ILLNESSES ARE
POSSIBLE. DRINK PLENTY OF FLUIDS...STAY IN AN AIR-CONDITIONED
ROOM...STAY OUT OF THE SUN...AND CHECK UP ON RELATIVES AND
NEIGHBORS.

TAKE EXTRA PRECAUTIONS...IF YOU WORK OR SPEND TIME OUTSIDE. WHEN
POSSIBLE...RESCHEDULE STRENUOUS ACTIVITIES TO EARLY MORNING OR
EVENING. KNOW THE SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF HEAT EXHAUSTION AND HEAT
STROKE. WEAR LIGHT WEIGHT AND LOOSE FITTING CLOTHING WHEN POSSIBLE
AND DRINK PLENTY OF WATER.

TO REDUCE RISK DURING OUTDOOR WORK...THE OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND
HEALTH ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDS SCHEDULING FREQUENT REST BREAKS
IN SHADED OR AIR CONDITIONED ENVIRONMENTS. ANYONE OVERCOME BY HEAT
SHOULD BE MOVED TO A COOL AND SHADED LOCATION. HEAT STROKE IS AN

Advisory for the North Branch Chicago River...

  North Branch Chicago River at Chicago Albany Ave affecting Cook
  County


.Heavy rainfall in excess of three inches fell across and portions of
the river basin late Saturday afternoon and evening. This will result
in rapid rises on the river overnight.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Safety message...If you encounter a flooded roadway...turn around and
find an alternate route.

* At 1200 AM Sunday the stage was 4.5 feet.
* Action stage is 5.0 feet.
* Flood stage is 7.0 feet.
* Forecast...The river will rise to near 6.7 feet by early this
  morning. The river should then slowly fall later in the day
  Saturday.

  NORTHEASTERN COOK COUNTY IN NORTHEASTERN ILLINOIS...

* UNTIL 515 AM CDT

* AT 1137 PM CDT...HEAVY RAINFALL HAD MOVED OUT OF THE ADVISORY
  AREA. HOWEVER...RADAR INDICATES THAT BETWEEN THREE AND FIVE INCHES
  OF RAIN HAD FALLEN SINCE LATE SATURDAY AFTERNOON. LOCAL LAW
  ENFORCEMENT REPORTS THAT SOME TYPICAL LOW SPOTS REMAIN FLOODED...
  AND WATER MAY BE SLOW TO RECEDE OVERNIGHT. THEREFORE THE FLOOD
  ADVISORY HAS BEEN EXTENDED UNTIL 515 AM CDT.

EXCESSIVE RUNOFF FROM HEAVY RAINFALL WILL CAUSE PONDING OF WATER IN
URBAN AREAS...HIGHWAYS...STREETS AND UNDERPASSES AS WELL AS OTHER
POOR DRAINAGE AREAS AND LOW LYING SPOTS. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO TRAVEL
ACROSS FLOODED ROADS. FIND ALTERNATE ROUTES.

DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE
ROADWAY. THE WATER DEPTH MAY BE TOO GREAT TO ALLOW YOUR CAR TO CROSS
SAFELY. MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND.

THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR NORTH CENTRAL ILLINOIS...
NORTHEAST ILLINOIS AND NORTHWEST INDIANA.

.DAY ONE...TONIGHT.

WEATHER HAZARDS EXPECTED:
  SIGNIFICANT THUNDERSTORM RISK...WITH AN ASSOCIATED:
      LIMITED HAIL RISK...UP TO HALF DOLLAR SIZE.
      ELEVATED THUNDERSTORM WIND DAMAGE RISK...UP TO 70 MPH.
  LIMITED FLOODING RISK.
  SIGNIFICANT EXCESSIVE HEAT RISK.

DISCUSSION:

ISOLATED TO SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE POSSIBLE LATE THIS AFTERNOON
MAINLY ALONG AND NORTH OF INTERSTATE 80. MOST STORMS WILL BE SLOW
MOVING AND THUS CAPABLE OF HEAVY RAINFALL AND LOCALIZED FLOODING.
IN ADDITION...THERE WILL BE A BRIEF GUSTY WIND THREAT WITH ANY STORMS.

A MORE ORGANIZED AREA OF THUNDERSTORMS WILL MOVE IN FROM EASTERN IOWA
THIS EVENING AND IMPACT AREAS ALONG AND NORTH OF INTERSTATE 80. DAMAGING
WINDS...TORRENTIAL DOWNPOURS AND LIGHTNING WILL BE THE MAIN THREATS. A
MINIMAL TORNADO THREAT EXISTS NEAR THE WISCONSIN BORDER.

ADDITIONAL THUNDERSTORMS ARE POSSIBLE OVERNIGHT.

AIR POLLUTION ACTION DAY WILL BE DECLARED FOR THE GREATER CHICAGO
METROPOLITAN AREA AND IS IN EFFECT UNTIL MIDNIGHT CDT TONIGHT.

AN AIR POLLUTION ACTION DAY IS DECLARED WHEN WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE
SUCH THAT WIDESPREAD OZONE AND OR PARTICULATE LEVELS ARE EXPECTED TO
BE AT OR ABOVE THE UNHEALTHY FOR SENSITIVE GROUPS CATEGORY OF THE
AIR QUALITY INDEX.

ACTIVE CHILDREN AND ADULTS ESPECIALLY PEOPLE WITH PULMONARY OR
RESPIRATORY DISEASE SUCH AS ASTHMA SHOULD LIMIT PROLONGED OUTDOOR
ACTIVITY.

PARTICIPANTS IN THE...PARTNERS FOR CLEAN AIR PROGRAM...ARE REQUESTED
