URGENT - WEATHER MESSAGE
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE QUAD CITIES IA IL
315 PM CDT SUN JUL 24 2016

...DANGEROUS HEAT THROUGH EARLY THIS EVENING...

.HOT AND HUMID CONDITIONS WILL CONTINUE THROUGH EARLY THIS EVENING
AHEAD OF A COLD FRONT THAT WILL MOVE ACROSS THE AREA. HEAT
INDICES OF 100 TO 115 DEGREES WILL MAKE FOR DANGEROUS OUTDOOR
CONDITIONS THROUGH THE EARLY EVENING HOURS. THE RISK FOR HEAT
EXHAUSTION AND HEAT STROKE WILL EXIST ESPECIALLY CONSIDERING THE
ACCUMULATIVE EFFECT OF SEVERAL DAYS IN A ROW WITH THIS KIND OF
HEAT AND HUMIDITY. THE COLD FRONT WILL BRING COOLER AND LESS HUMID
CONDITIONS TO ALL OF THE AREA BEGINNING TONIGHT...BREAKING THE
HEAT WAVE.

EVENING...

* HEAT INDEX VALUES...PEAKING BETWEEN 105 TO 115.

* TIMING...OPPRESSIVE CONDITIONS WILL OCCUR THROUGH EARLY THIS
  EVENING. PEAK HEAT INDEX READINGS AND MOST DANGEROUS
  CONDITIONS WILL BE DURING THE AFTERNOON AND EARLY EVENING.

* IMPACTS...TEMPERATURES AND MOISTURE THIS HIGH COULD LEAD TO
  HEAT RELATED ILLNESSES WITH PROLONGED EXPOSURE. THE ELDERLY...
  SMALL CHILDREN AND PETS ARE ESPECIALLY SUSCEPTIBLE. PLAN
  AHEAD. HAVE A COOL PLACE TO SHELTER FROM THE HEAT. AVOID
  OUTDOOR ACTIVITY DURING THE MIDDAY AND AFTERNOON.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

AN EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING MEANS THAT A PROLONGED PERIOD OF
DANGEROUSLY HOT TEMPERATURES AND HIGH HUMIDITY WILL OCCUR.  THIS
COMBINATION WILL LEAD TO A DANGEROUS SITUATION IN WHICH HEAT
ILLNESSES ARE LIKELY.  DRINK PLENTY OF FLUIDS... STAY IN AN AIR-
CONDITIONED ROOM... STAY OUT OF THE SUN... AND CHECK ON RELATIVES
AND NEIGHBORS... ESPECIALLY THE ELDERLY.

TAKE EXTRA PRECAUTIONS IF YOU WORK OR SPEND TIME OUTSIDE.  WHEN
POSSIBLE... RESCHEDULE STRENUOUS ACTIVITIES TO EARLY MORNING OR
EVENING.  KNOW THE SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF HEAT EXHAUSTION AND HEAT
STROKE.  WEAR LIGHT WEIGHT AND LOOSE FITTING CLOTHING WHEN
POSSIBLE AND DRINK PLENTY OF WATER.

TO REDUCE RISK DURING OUTDOOR WORK THE OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND
HEALTH ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDS SCHEDULING FREQUENT REST BREAKS
IN SHADED OR AIR CONDITIONED ENVIRONMENTS.  ANYONE OVERCOME BY
HEAT SHOULD BE MOVED TO A COOL AND SHADED LOCATION.  HEAT STROKE
IS AN EMERGENCY... CALL 9 1 1.

CENTRAL IOWA...NORTHEAST IOWA...SOUTHEAST IOWA AND NORTHEAST
MISSOURI.

.DAY ONE...TODAY AND TONIGHT

ANOTHER ROUND OF HOT AND HUMID CONDITIONS WILL OCCUR TODAY AHEAD
OF A FRONTAL SYSTEM PUSHING TOWARD THE AREA FROM THE WEST. HEAT
INDEX READINGS OF 100 TO 110 ARE EXPECTED. WITH THE ACCUMULATIVE
EFFECT OF SEVERAL DAYS OF HIGH HUMIDITY AND HEAT...AN EXCESSIVE
HEAT WARNING AND HEAT ADVISORY HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR AREAS AHEAD OF
THE FRONT GENERALLY ALONG AND SOUTHEAST OF A LINE FROM WASHINGTON
IOWA...TO EAST OF DUBUQUE FROM LATE MORNING THROUGH EARLY EVENING.
THE HIGHER HEAT INDEX READINGS ARE EXPECTED GENERALLY ALONG AND
EAST OF THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER UP THROUGH THE STERLING ILLINOIS
AREA.

ISOLATED TO SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE POSSIBLE TODAY ALONG
THE PASSING FRONT...WITH THE BEST CHANCES OCCURRING ALONG AND
EAST OF A LINE FROM DUBUQUE IOWA...TO FAIRFIELD IN SOUTHEASTERN
IOWA THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING. A FEW STRONG TO SEVERE STORMS MAY
OCCUR WITH ALL MODES OF SEVERE WEATHER POSSIBLE. THESE STORMS WILL
ALSO BE ABLE TO PRODUCE LOCALLY HEAVY RAINFALL. A FEW STORMS MAY
LINGER INTO THE LATE NIGHT HOURS SOUTH OF A KEOSAUQUA IOWA...TO
MONMOUTH ILLINOIS LINE.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...MONDAY THROUGH SATURDAY

THUNDERSTORMS ARE POSSIBLE WEDNESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY. IT IS TOO
SOON TO DETERMINE THE POTENTIAL FOR SEVERE WEATHER.
