...SIGNIFICANT WEATHER ADVISORY...

AT 703 AM EDT...DOPPLER RADAR WAS TRACKING A LINE OF STRONG
THUNDERSTORMS ALONG A LINE EXTENDING FROM 9 MILES NORTHWEST OF
RAVENNA TO 34 MILES EAST OF BAYSIDE...AND MOVING SOUTHEAST AT 15 MPH.

WIND GUSTS AT LEAST 40 MPH WITH SOME DOWNED TREE LIMBS WILL BE
POSSIBLE WITH THESE STORMS. VERY HEAVY RAINFALL AND FREQUENT
LIGHTNING ARE ALSO OCCURRING. RAINFALL RATES OF 1 TO 2 INCHES PER
HOUR ARE EXPECTED.

FREQUENT CLOUD TO GROUND LIGHTNING IS OCCURRING WITH THESE STORMS.
LIGHTNING CAN STRIKE 15 MILES AWAY FROM A THUNDERSTORM. SEEK A SAFE
SHELTER INSIDE A BUILDING OR VEHICLE.

THESE STORMS MAY INTENSIFY...SO BE CERTAIN TO MONITOR LOCAL RADIO AND
TV STATIONS...AS WELL AS LOCAL CABLE TV OUTLETS...FOR ADDITIONAL

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN GRAND RAPIDS HAS ISSUED A

* FLOOD ADVISORY FOR...
  MUSKEGON COUNTY IN WEST CENTRAL MICHIGAN...
  OTTAWA COUNTY IN SOUTHWESTERN MICHIGAN...
  OCEANA COUNTY IN WEST CENTRAL MICHIGAN...

* UNTIL 630 PM EDT SUNDAY

* AT 635 AM EDT...DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED THUNDERSTORMS WITH VERY
  HEAVY RAIN FROM NEAR STONY LAKE SOUTHWARD THROUGH MUSKEGON TO JUST
  WEST OF GRAND HAVEN. ADDITIONAL STORMS EXTENDED OUT OVER LAKE
  MICHIGAN.  THE STORMS WERE TRACKING EAST AT 20 MPH. THUS SEVERAL
  HOURS OF HEAVY RAIN MAY RESULT. THIS WILL CAUSE MINOR FLOODING IN
  THE ADVISORY AREA.

* HOURLY RAINFALL RATES COULD TOP AN INCH PER HOUR.  IT IS LIKELY
  THAT SOME LOCATIONS WILL SEE IN EXCESS OF 2 INCHES OF RAIN BEFORE
  THE HEAVY RAIN ENDS LATER THIS MORNING.

* SOME LOCATIONS THAT WILL EXPERIENCE FLOODING INCLUDE...

EXCESSIVE RUNOFF FROM HEAVY RAINFALL WILL CAUSE PONDING OF WATER IN
URBAN AREAS...HIGHWAYS...STREETS AND UNDERPASSES AS WELL AS OTHER
POOR DRAINAGE AREAS AND LOW LYING SPOTS. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO TRAVEL
ACROSS FLOODED ROADS. FIND ALTERNATE ROUTES.

HAZARDS STATEMENT...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM EDT THIS
MORNING THROUGH THIS AFTERNOON.

* HIGH WAVE ACTION... STRONG CURRENTS AND DANGEROUS SWIMMING
  CONDITIONS EXPECTED.

* STRONG STRUCTURAL CURRENTS EXPECTED.

* STRONG LONGSHORE CURRENTS EXPECTED.

* RIP CURRENTS POSSIBLE.

* LOCATION...BEACHES FROM MUSKEGON TO MANISTEE

* BEACHES WITH PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS CONDITIONS TODAY INCLUDE...


 PERE MARQUETTE PARK IN MUSKEGON.

* OVERVIEW/POTENTIAL IMPACTS...SOUTH TO SOUTHWEST WINDS WILL
  INCREASE THIS MORNING TO 20 TO 30 MPH. THIS WILL CAUSE THE WAVES
  TO BUILD TO 3 TO 5 FEET...RESULTING IN HAZARDOUS SWIMMING
  CONDITIONS. CONDITIONS WILL GRADUALLY IMPROVE LATER THIS
  AFTERNOON AND EVENING.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

HIGH WAVE ACTION MAKES SWIMMING DIFFICULT AND CAN TIRE EVEN A
STRONG SWIMMER QUICKLY.

STRUCTURAL CURRENTS FORM ALONG PIERS WHERE LONGSHORE CURRENTS AND
WAVE ACTION FLOW INTO THE STRUCTURE. STRUCTURAL CURRENTS CAN
SWEEP YOU OUT INTO DEEPER WATER ALONG THE PIER STRUCTURE.

A LONGSHORE CURRENT IS A LAKE CURRENT THAT MOVES PARALLEL TO
SHORE. LONGSHORE CURRENTS CAN BE STRONG ENOUGH TO PREVENT
SWIMMERS FROM BEING ABLE TO KEEP THEIR FEET ON THE BOTTOM...
MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO RETURN TO SHORE.

RIP CURRENTS ARE POWERFUL CHANNELS OF WATER FLOWING QUICKLY AWAY
FROM SHORE...WHICH OCCUR MOST OFTEN AT LOW SPOTS OR BREAKS IN
SANDBARS. RIP CURRENTS CAN SWEEP YOU INTO DEEPER WATER.
