URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TWIN CITIES/CHANHASSEN MN
444 AM CDT WED APR 16 2014

...HEAVY SNOW LIKELY ACROSS PORTIONS OF CENTRAL MINNESOTA AND
WEST CENTRAL WISCONSIN TODAY AND TONIGHT...

.A WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH TONIGHT
FOR AREAS ALONG AND NORTH OF A LINE FROM ST. CLOUD TO CAMBRIDGE
IN MINNESOTA...AND FOR AREAS ALONG AND NORTH OF HIGHWAY 8 IN
WISCONSIN...INCLUDING LUCK...RICE LAKE AND LADYSMITH.

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IS ALSO IN EFFECT THROUGH TONIGHT JUST TO
THE WEST AND SOUTH OF THE WARNING AREA...STRETCHING FROM MADISON
AND MONTEVIDEO THROUGH BUFFALO... THE NORTH TWIN CITIES METRO TO
CHIPPEWA FALLS AND CORNELL IN WISCONSIN.

SNOW HAS DEVELOPED ACROSS CENTRAL MINNESOTA AND ADJOINING AREAS OF
WEST CENTRAL WISCONSIN AHEAD OF AN APPROACHING LOW PRESSURE
SYSTEM AND WARM FRONT. ANOTHER AREA OF SNOW WILL DEVELOP THIS
MORNING ACROSS FAR WESTERN MINNESOTA AND MERGE WITH THE INITIAL
BAND. THE SNOW WILL BE HEAVY AT TIMES TODAY BEFORE DIMINISHING
FROM WEST TO EAST TONIGHT. THE SNOW WILL TRANSITION TO RAIN OR AT
LEAST A MIX OF RAIN AND SNOW TODAY ACROSS THE NORTH TWIN CITIES
METRO EASTWARD THROUGH NEW RICHMOND...CHIPPEWA FALLS AND
CORNELL. A VERY TIGHT GRADIENT IN SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS IS
EXPECTED GIVEN DUE TO A SHARPLY DEFINED RAIN/SNOW LINE.

OVERALL...6 TO 10 INCHES OF WET SNOW ACCUMULATION ARE EXPECTED
ACROSS THE WARNING AREA WITH SOME 10 TO 12 INCH AMOUNTS POSSIBLE
FROM LAKE MILLE LACS EASTWARD INTO WISCONSIN. SNOW AMOUNTS OF 3 TO
6 INCHES ARE EXPECTED IN THE ADVISORY AREA...BUT A SHARP GRADIENT
TO LESSER AMOUNTS WILL BE SEEN ALONG THE SOUTHERN PERIPHERY OF THE
ADVISORY AREA.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN TWIN CITIES/CHANHASSEN HAS ISSUED
A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR HEAVY SNOW...WHICH IS IN EFFECT UNTIL
10 PM CDT THIS EVENING.

* TIMING...SNOW WILL DEVELOP EARLY THIS MORNING...AND CONTINUE INTO
  TONIGHT. THE SNOW MAY BECOME A MIXTURE OF RAIN AND SNOW...OR
  BECOME ALL RAIN FOR PART OF TODAY. THE SNOW WILL TAPER OFF
  TONIGHT.

* SNOW ACCUMULATION...3 TO 6 INCHES...WITH LOWER AMOUNTS ACROSS
  SOUTHERN PORTIONS OF THESE COUNTIES DUE TO RAINFALL MIXING IN
  WITH THE SNOW.

* OTHER IMPACTS...TRAVEL MAY BE HAZARDOUS THROUGH EARLY THURSDAY
  MORNING. THIS WILL BE A WET SNOW WHICH WILL BE DIFFICULT TO
  SHOVEL.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR SNOW MEANS THAT PERIODS OF SNOW
WILL CAUSE PRIMARILY TRAVEL DIFFICULTIES. BE PREPARED FOR SNOW
COVERED ROADS AND LIMITED VISIBILITIES...AND USE CAUTION WHILE
DRIVING.
