THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR PORTIONS OF EASTERN AND
CENTRAL MISSOURI AS WELL AS WEST CENTRAL AND SOUTHWEST ILLINOIS.

.DAY ONE...TODAY AND TONIGHT

EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNINGS AND HEAT ADVISORIES ARE IN EFFECT FOR THE
ENTIRE FORECAST AREA BECAUSE DANGEROUS HEAT INDEX VALUES ARE
EXPECTED TODAY.

ISOLATED TO SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS ARE POSSIBLE THIS AFTERNOON.
WIDESPREAD SEVERE WEATHER IS NOT ANTICIPATED THIS
AFTERNOON.

AN APPROACHING COLD FRONT WILL BRING A CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS
TO NORTHEAST MISSOURI AND WEST CENTRAL ILLINOIS TONIGHT. SOME OF
THE STRONGER STORMS TONIGHT COULD PRODUCE GUSTY WINDS...SMALL
HAIL...AND HEAVY DOWNPOURS.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...WEDNESDAY THROUGH MONDAY

A CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS WILL CONTINUE ACROSS THE ENTIRE AREA ON
WEDNESDAY AS THE COLD FRONT SWEEPS THROUGH THE MID-MISSISSIPPI
VALLEY.

THUNDERSTORMS ARE ALSO POSSIBLE BETWEEN SATURDAY NIGHT AND
MONDAY.

EVENING...

* TIMING...DANGEROUS HEAT INDEX VALUES WILL BE REACHED DURING THE
  AFTERNOON AND EARLY EVENING HOURS TODAY.

* HEAT INDEX VALUES...UP TO 110.

* IMPACTS...THE COMBINATION OF HOT TEMPERATURES AND HIGH
  HUMIDITY WILL LIKELY LEAD TO AN INCREASED RISK OF HEAT-RELATED
  STRESS AND ILLNESS. THE VERY YOUNG...THE ELDERLY...THOSE
  WITHOUT AIR CONDITIONING...AND THOSE PARTICIPATING IN
  STRENUOUS OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES WILL BE THE MOST SUSCEPTIBLE.
  ALSO...CAR INTERIORS CAN REACH LETHAL TEMPERATURES IN A MATTER
  OF MINUTES.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

TAKE EXTRA PRECAUTIONS IF YOU WORK OR SPEND TIME OUTSIDE. WHEN
POSSIBLE...RESCHEDULE STRENUOUS ACTIVITIES TO THE EARLY MORNING
OR EVENING. KNOW THE SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF HEAT EXHAUSTION AND
HEAT STROKE. WEAR LIGHT WEIGHT AND LOOSE FITTING CLOTHING WHEN
POSSIBLE AND DRINK PLENTY OF WATER.

TO REDUCE RISK DURING OUTDOOR WORK...THE OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND
HEALTH ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDS SCHEDULING FREQUENT REST BREAKS
IN SHADED OR AIR CONDITIONED ENVIRONMENTS. ANYONE OVERCOME BY
HEAT SHOULD BE MOVED TO A COOL AND SHADED LOCATION. HEAT STROKE
IS AN EMERGENCY. CALL 9-1-1 IMMEDIATELY.
