...COASTAL FLOODING CONTINUING FOR THE OUTER BANKS AND EASTERN
CARTERET COUNTY...

.GUSTY NORTHWEST WINDS WILL CONTINUE TO PRODUCE ELEVATED WATER
LEVELS ON THE SOUTHERN AND EASTERN PAMLICO SOUND EARLY THIS
MORNING. LINGERING HIGH SURF WILL PRODUCE BEACH EROSION AND
COASTAL FLOODING FROM THE OCEAN ON THE NORTHERN OUTER BANKS INTO
THIS AFTERNOON.

...COASTAL FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 4 PM EST THIS
AFTERNOON...

* LOCATION...AREAS ADJACENT TO THE PAMLICO SOUND FROM THE
  VICINITY OF COLLINGTON HARBOR SOUTH THROUGH OCRACOKE. OCEAN
  SIDE LOCATIONS NORTH OF CAPE HATTERAS.

* COASTAL FLOODING...SIGNIFICANT WATER LEVEL RISES OF 2 TO 4 FEET
  ABOVE NORMAL FOR SOUND SIDE LOCATIONS. FOR THE BEACHES WATER
  LEVEL RISES WILL BE 2 TO 4 FEET ABOVE NORMAL IN A COMBINATION
  OF STORM SURGE AND WAVE RUN-UP...ESPECIALLY FROM CAPE HATTERAS
  NORTH. THERE WILL ALSO BE LARGE BATTERING WAVES RESULTING IN
  SIGNIFICANT EROSION WITH OVERWASH AND INUNDATION EXPECTED.

* TIMING...THROUGH TODAY. IMPACTS ON THE OCEAN SIDE SHOULD PEAK
  WITH THE HIGH TIDE CYCLE AROUND 6 AM TO 8 AM THIS MORNING.

* IMPACTS...SIGNIFICANT EROSION...OCEAN OVERWASH...AND INUNDATION
  ALONG THE OUTER BANKS NORTH OF CAPE HATTERAS. VULNERABLE
  STRUCTURES IN THE SURF ZONE COULD SUSTAIN DAMAGE FROM THE LARGE
  BREAKING WAVES. HIGHWAY 12 MAY BE IMPASSABLE IN TYPICALLY PRONE
  LOCATIONS FROM BOTH OCEAN AND SOUND SIDE FLOODING EARLY THIS
  MORNING. SOUND SIDE FLOODING COULD ALSO IMPACT ROADS AND
  PROPERTIES ADJACENT TO THE PAMLICO SOUND AND ITS TIDAL CREEKS.
  PORTIONS OF BUXTON...FRISCO...HATTERAS VILLAGE...AND OCRACOKE
  VILLAGE COULD SEE 1 TO 3 FEET OF INUNDATION ABOVE GROUND IN
  SPOTS.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A COASTAL FLOOD WARNING MEANS THAT FLOODING IS OCCURRING OR
IMMINENT. COASTAL RESIDENTS IN THE WARNED AREA SHOULD BE ALERT
FOR RISING WATER...AND TAKE APPROPRIATE ACTION TO PROTECT LIFE
AND PROPERTY.
