ONTARIO NY-MONROE NY-
158 PM EDT MON JUL 28 2014

...A FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 345 PM EDT FOR
SOUTHEASTERN MONROE AND ONTARIO COUNTIES...

AT 151 PM EDT...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE RADAR SHOWED RAIN GRADUALLY
TAPERING OFF ACROSS ONTARIO COUNTY. ADDITIONAL RAINFALL THROUGH LATE
AFTERNOON SHOULD BE LESS THAN A HALF INCH.

HOWEVER...HEAVER RAINS EARLIER TODAY HAS PRODUCED SIGNIFICANT FLASH
FLOODING ACROSS THE WARNED AREA. THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS REPORTS OF
ROAD CLOSURES AND WASHOUTS...ESPECIALLY IN THE BRISTOL HILLS NEAR
CANANDAIGUA LAKE AND HONEOYE LAKE...AS WELL AS THE TOWN OF GORHAM.
ALSO...CREEKS AND STREAMS CAN TAKE SEVERAL HOURS TO CREST AFTER THE
HEAVIEST RAINFALL. THOSE IN THE WARNING AREA SHOULD REMAIN ALERT FOR
FLOODING...AND EXERCISE CAUTION WHEN TRAVELING.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

EXCESSIVE RUNOFF FROM HEAVY RAINFALL WILL CAUSE FLOODING OF SMALL
CREEKS AND STREAMS...HIGHWAYS AND UNDERPASSES.

IN HILLY TERRAIN THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF LOW WATER CROSSINGS WHICH ARE
POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS IN HEAVY RAIN. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO TRAVEL ACROSS
FLOODED ROADS. FIND ALTERNATE ROUTES. IT TAKES ONLY A FEW INCHES OF
SWIFTLY FLOWING WATER TO CARRY VEHICLES AWAY.
