THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN BUFFALO HAS ISSUED A

* FLOOD ADVISORY FOR THE SALMON RIVER IN...
OSWEGO COUNTY IN CENTRAL NEW YORK...

* UNTIL 230 PM EDT WEDNESDAY

* AT 230 PM EDT...ADDITIONAL WATER IS GOING TO BE RELEASED FROM
THE RESERVOIR ON THE UPPER REACHES OF THE SALMON RIVER. FLOW RATES
OF 5200 CFS WILL INCREASE TO 8000 CFS...BUT ACTUAL FLOWS CAN VARY
AND CHANGE QUICKLY AT ANY TIME.

*THIS WILL CAUSE THE RIVER TO INCREASE TO AROUND 11 FEET AT THE
GAUGE IN PINEVILLE. THIS WILL RESULT IN MINOR LOWLAND
FLOODING...HOWEVER FLOWS HIGHER THAN THIS COULD IMPACT AREAS ALONG
THE SALMON RIVER IN PULASKI. THOSE WHO UTILIZE THE LOWER PORTION OF
THE RIVER TO FISH OR FOR OTHER RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES SHOULD BE
ALERT FOR THE INCREASED FLOW AND AVOID THE RIVER UNTIL FURTHER
 NOTICE.

*THOSE WITH INTERESTS ALONG THE SALMON RIVER SHOULD CONTINUE TO
MONITOR LATER STATEMENTS CONCERNING THIS SITUATION AS THERE IS
THE POTENTIAL FOR EVEN GREATER FLOW RATES.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

MOST FLOOD DEATHS OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES. NEVER DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO
AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE ROADWAY. FLOOD WATERS ARE USUALLY
DEEPER THAN THEY APPEAR. JUST ONE FOOT OF FLOWING WATER IS POWERFUL
ENOUGH TO SWEEP VEHICLES OFF THE ROAD. WHEN ENCOUNTERING FLOODED
ROADS MAKE THE SMART CHOICE...TURN AROUND...DONT DROWN.
