...LAKE EFFECT SNOW ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 10 PM THIS EVENING TO
7 AM EST SATURDAY...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN BINGHAMTON HAS ISSUED A LAKE
EFFECT SNOW ADVISORY...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 10 PM THIS EVENING
TO 7 AM EST SATURDAY.

* LOCATIONS...CORTLAND, CHENANGO AND OTSEGO COUNTIES.

* ACCUMULATIONS...SNOW ACCUMULATION OF 4 TO 8 INCHES, WITH MUCH OF
  THE SNOWFALL OCCURRING FRIDAY AND FRIDAY NIGHT. THE HIGHER
  TERRAIN IN NORTHERN CORTLAND AND NORTHERN CHENANGO COUNTIES
  WILL SEE THE MOST SNOWFALL.

* TIMING...SOME SNOW SHOWERS ARE EXPECTED THIS EVENING, BUT THE
  MORE PERSISTENT AND HEAVIER LAKE EFFECT SNOW BANDS WILL SHIFT
  INTO THE REGION FRIDAY MORNING AND CONTINUE FRIDAY NIGHT BEFORE
  TAPERING OFF ON SATURDAY.

* IMPACTS...LAKE EFFECT SNOW AND GUSTY WINDS WILL LEAD TO
  CONSIDERABLE BLOWING AND DRIFTING OF SNOW ALONG WITH WHITEOUT
  CONDITIONS AT TIMES. THIS WILL RESULT IN VERY DANGEROUS TRAVEL.

* WINDS...NORTHWEST 10 TO 15 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 30 MPH.

* TEMPERATURES...IN THE MIDDLE 20S.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A LAKE EFFECT SNOW ADVISORY MEANS LAKE-EFFECT SNOW IS FORECAST
THAT WILL MAKE TRAVEL DIFFICULT IN SOME AREAS. LAKE-EFFECT SNOW
SHOWERS TYPICALLY ALIGN THEMSELVES IN BANDS AND WILL LIKELY BE
INTENSE ENOUGH TO DROP SEVERAL INCHES IN LOCALIZED AREAS. USE
CAUTION WHEN TRAVELING.
