...HEAVY SNOW IS EXPECTED OVER PORTIONS OF THE NORTH CAROLINA
MOUNTAINS TONIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY EVENING...

.A STRONG UPPER LEVEL LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM IS FORECAST TO CROSS
THE SOUTHERN APPALACHIANS AND UPSTATE SOUTH CAROLINA THIS
MORNING. VERY COLD AIR WILL ACCOMPANY THE SYSTEM. PRECIPITATION
SHOULD CHANGE TO SNOW ACROSS THE HIGHER TERRAIN OF THE WESTERN
CAROLINAS AND NORTHEAST GEORGIA...MAINLY AT ELEVATIONS ABOVE
1500 FEET. AS THE SYSTEM EXITS TO THE EAST DURING THE DAY ON
SATURDAY...STRONG NORTHWEST FLOW WILL CONTINUE...RESULTING IN
NUMEROUS SNOW SHOWERS THROUGH AT LEAST SATURDAY AFTERNOON ACROSS
THE MOUNTAINS OF NORTH CAROLINA. THE SNOW SHOULD CONTINUE ALONG
THE TN BORDER THROUGH SATURDAY EVENING.

* HAZARDS...ACCUMULATING SNOWFALL.

* TIMING...NUMEROUS SNOW SHOWERS WILL LIKELY CONTINUE THROUGH
  THE MORNING...BEFORE ENDING SATURDAY AFTERNOON.

* ACCUMULATIONS...SNOW ACCUMULATION OF UP TO 2 INCHES MAINLY
  OVER ELEVATED AND GRASSY SURFACES.

* IMPACTS...THE WET SNOW COMBINED WITH VERY WINDY CONDITIONS
  COULD PRODUCE ISOLATED TREE AND POWER LINE DAMAGE. ROAD
  SURFACES MAY SEE SLIGHTLY LESS SNOW ACCUMULATION...BUT BRIDGES
  AND OVERPASSES MAY BECOME SNOW COVERED AND ICY.

* TEMPERATURES...IN THE UPPER 30S.

* WINDS...NORTHWEST 10 TO 15 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 25 MPH.

...VERY WINDY ACROSS THE MOUNTAINS TODAY..THEN FREEZING
TEMPERATURES ACROSS NORTHEAST GEORGIA..THE WESTERN UPSTATE OF
SOUTH CAROLINA..AND THE NORTH CAROLINA FOOTHILLS TONIGHT...

.A VERY COLD AIR MASS WILL ACCOMPANY THE PASSAGE OF AN UPPER LOW
ACROSS THE SOUTHERN APPALACHIANS AND WESTERN CAROLINAS THIS
MORNING. THE LOW AND ITS COLD FRONT WILL BRING TEMPERATURES BELOW
FREEZING THAT WILL ALLOW FOR ACCUMULATING SNOWFALL ACROSS MUCH OF
THE MOUNTAINS. THE LOW TEMPERATURES WILL BE EQUALLY COLD ACROSS
THE OTHER NORTH CAROLINA MOUNTAIN COUNTIES NOT LISTED IN THE
FREEZE WARNING EARLY SATURDAY...BUT THE GROWING SEASON HAS ALREADY
ENDED IN THOSE LOCATIONS...SO THEY WERE NOT INCLUDED IN THE NEW
FREEZE WARNING. TEMPERATURES WILL STRUGGLE TO CLIMB THROUGH THE
40S AND LOWER 50S ON SATURDAY AFTERNOON EAST OF THE MOUNTAINS. A
DEVELOPING LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM ALONG THE NORTH CAROLINA COAST WILL
ALSO PRODUCE STRONG WINDS.
