NORTHWEST WINDS OF 20 TO 35 MPH...WITH GUSTS OF 40 TO 50 MPH WILL
CONTINUE THROUGH EARLY THIS EVENING. THE COMBINATION OF STRONG
WINDS AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY WILL CONTINUE CRITICAL FIRE
WEATHER CONDITIONS INTO THE EVENING.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...THURSDAY THROUGH TUESDAY

THE GRASSLAND FIRE DANGER INDEX WILL BE IN THE VERY HIGH TO
EXTREME CATEGORY FOR THURSDAY AS LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY AND HIGH
WINDS ARE EXPECTED.

.CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS HAVE DEVELOPED ACROSS WESTERN
SOUTH DAKOTA AND PARTS OF NORTHEAST WYOMING EARLY THIS AFTERNOON.
STRONG NORTHWEST WINDS CONTINUE INTO THE EVENING HOURS...GUSTING IN
EXCESS OF 40 MPH AT TIMES. RELATIVE HUMIDITY VALUES HAVE STEADILY
FALLEN THROUGH THE LATE MORNING AND EARLY AFTERNOON AND ARE
EXPECTED TO BE NEAR OR LESS THAN 20 PERCENT INTO THE EVENING.
CONDITIONS WILL BEGIN TO GRADUALLY IMPROVE AROUND SUNSET.

* WINDS...NORTHWEST 15 TO 25 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 35 MPH.

* RELATIVE HUMIDITY...AS LOW AS 22 PERCENT.

* TEMPERATURES...AROUND 60.

* IMPACTS...WILDFIRES CAN SPREAD RAPIDLY IN THE VERY DRY FUELS.

.DISCUSSION...A COLD FRONT WILL MOVE THROUGH WESTERN SOUTH DAKOTA
EARLY THIS MORNING. NORTHWEST WINDS OF 20 TO 35 MPH...WITH GUSTS
TO 50 MPH...WILL SPREAD ACROSS THE AREA BEHIND THE FRONT. HIGH
TEMPERATURES WILL RANGE FROM THE UPPER 50S IN NORTHWEST SOUTH
DAKOTA TO THE LOWER 70S IN SOUTH CENTRAL SOUTH DAKOTA. MINIMUM
RELATIVE HUMIDITY WILL BE 15 TO 20 PERCENT.

ON THURSDAY...THE GRASSLAND FIRE DANGER INDEX IS EXPECTED TO BE IN
THE VERY HIGH TO EXTREME CATEGORY.

ON THE GROUND...INDICATE THAT CRITICAL BURNING CONDITIONS EXIST.
A FIRE WILL START EASILY AND HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BECOME LARGE
AND SPREAD QUICKLY BECOMING ERRATIC WITH EXTREME BEHAVIORAL
CHARACTERISTICS. NO OUTDOOR BURNING SHOULD TAKE PLACE.

THE OUTLOOK FOR THURSDAY AFTERNOON...THE GRASSLAND FIRE DANGER
INDEX WILL REACH THE VERY HIGH CATEGORY TO EXTREME CATEGORY.
