THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR PORTIONS OF SOUTHWEST NORTH
CAROLINA...EAST TENNESSEE AND SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA.

.DAY ONE...THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT...

NO HAZARDOUS WEATHER IS EXPECTED.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...SUNDAY THROUGH FRIDAY...

A STRONG WINTER STORM SYSTEM WILL MOVE INTO THE AREA SUNDAY AFTERNOON
WITH CONTINUING IMPACT THROUGH TUESDAY MORNING. WITH SUB-FREEZING
AIR IN PLACE ACROSS THE NORTHERN PLATEAU...NORTHEAST TENNESSEE AND
SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA...SIGNIFICANT SNOWFALL WILL START FALLING SUNDAY
AFTERNOON...AND THEN CONTINUE SUNDAY NIGHT INTO MONDAY. THE SNOW
WILL MIX WITH RAIN FROM KNOXVILLE SOUTH OVERNIGHT. LATE SUNDAY
NIGHT WARMER AIR ALOFT WILL MOVE IN FROM THE WEST AND SOUTH
PRODUCING A MIXTURE OF RAIN...SNOW...AND SLEET...WITH PATCHY
FREEZING RAIN TOO. THERE WILL BE A GRADUAL CHANGE FROM MIXED
PRECIPITATION TO ALL RAIN LATE SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH MONDAY MORNING
FROM SOUTHWEST TO NORTHEAST. ANY CHANGES IN THE DURATION AND TIMING
OF FROZEN PRECIPITATION TYPES WILL GREATLY AFFECT ACCUMULATION
AMOUNTS.

WIDESPREAD ACCUMULATING SNOWFALL WILL BE POSSIBLE IN NORTHERN
SECTIONS OF THE AREA. THE RAIN WILL CHANGE BACK TO SNOW LATE
MONDAY NIGHT OR EARLY TUESDAY...ESPECIALLY IN THE HIGHER
ELEVATIONS OF SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA AND THE EASTERN TENNESSEE
MOUNTAINS ALONG THE NORTH CAROLINA LINE WHERE SIGNIFICANT SNOWFALL
ACCUMULATIONS ARE POSSIBLE BY TUESDAY MORNING. ANOTHER WEAKER
SYSTEM WILL MOVE INTO THE REGION FROM THE NORTHWEST TUESDAY
AFTERNOON INTO TUESDAY NIGHT WITH MORE SNOW SHOWERS POSSIBLE
ESPECIALLY IN THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS.

SPECIFIC FORECAST DETAILS REGARDING PRECIPITATION AMOUNTS...TYPE
AND GEOGRAPHIC POSITIONING AS WELL AS THE TIMING OF TRANSITIONS
FROM SNOW TO RAIN AND RAIN BACK TO SNOW...ARE STILL SOMEWHAT

MORNING...

.SNOW IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN FALLING ACROSS THE NORTHERN CUMBERLAND
PLATEAU...NORTHEAST TENNESSEE AND SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA BEGINNING
SUNDAY AFTERNOON. THE SNOW WILL CONTINUE ACROSS THIS AREA THROUGH
THE EVENING...WITH A MIX OF SNOW AND RAIN POSSIBLE FROM AROUND
KNOXVILLE SOUTHWARD. AFTER MIDNIGHT ON SUNDAY NIGHT...WARM AIR
ALOFT WILL MOVE IN AND PRODUCE A MIX OF RAIN...SNOW...AND
SLEET...WITH PATCHY FREEZING RAIN POSSIBLE AS WELL. GRADUALLY...THE
MIXED PRECIPITATION WILL CHANGE OVER TO ALL RAIN THROUGH MONDAY

STORM WATCH...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM SUNDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH
MONDAY AFTERNOON.

* EVENT...SNOW AND SLEET ACCUMULATIONS OF 2 TO 5 INCHES ARE
  EXPECTED IN THE NORTHERN CUMBERLAND PLATEAU...NORTHERN TENNESSEE
  VALLEY...AND SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA. HIGHER ELEVATIONS MAY SEE
  BETWEEN 3 AND 6 INCHES OF SNOW AND SLEET ACCUMULATION.

* TIMING...SNOW IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ACCUMULATING AROUND MIDDAY
  SUNDAY...WITH A MIX OF SNOW...SLEET...AND RAIN LATE SUNDAY NIGHT
  AND MONDAY MORNING BEFORE CHANGING TO ALL RAIN MONDAY AFTERNOON.
