URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE

...SIGNIFICANT SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS EXPECTED IN THE HIGHER
ELEVATIONS ABOVE 2500 FEET TODAY...

.A LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM ALOFT WILL DROP SOUTHEASTWARD THROUGH THE
SOUTHERN APPALACHIAN REGION TODAY. MUCH COLDER AIR WILL MOVE INTO
THE REGION WITH THIS SYSTEM. BRISK NORTHWEST WINDS AND VERY COLD
TEMPERATURES ALOFT WILL ENHANCE SNOW ACCUMULATIONS ABOVE 2500
FEET...ESPECIALLY ON NORTHWEST FACING SLOPES. THE SNOW SHOWERS ARE
EXPECTED TO SLOWLY DIMINISH BY THIS EVENING.

  VEHICLES AND TREES.

* TIMING...OCCASIONAL SNOW SHOWERS CAN BE EXPECTED EARLY TODAY
  ...DIMINISHING  IN THE AFTERNOON.

* IMPACTS...DUE TO WARM GROUND TEMPERATURES...LIMITED SNOW
  ACCUMULATIONS ARE EXPECTED ON ROADWAYS.

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR SNOW MEANS THAT PERIODS OF SNOW ARE

CAROLINA...EAST TENNESSEE AND SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA.

.DAY ONE...TODAY AND TONIGHT...

A STRONG UPPER LEVEL LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL MOVE SOUTHEASTWARD
ACROSS THE SOUTHERN APPALACHIAN REGION TODAY. THIS SYSTEM WILL
BRING SIGNIFICANT SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS ACROSS THE HIGHER
ELEVATIONS...ALONG WITH MUCH COLDER TEMPERATURES FOR THE WEEKEND.

A WINTER STORM WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR TODAY ACROSS THE HIGHER
ELEVATIONS OF SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA AND THE EAST TENNESSEE
MOUNTAINS...WHERE LIFE THREATENING CONDITIONS DUE TO SIGNIFICANT
SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS IS EXPECTED. ANY UNNECESSARY TRAVEL OR
OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES...SUCH AS HIKING OR CAMPING IS STRONGLY
DISCOURAGED IN THESE AREAS.

LIGHT SNOW ACCUMULATIONS ARE ALSO EXPECTED ACROSS PORTIONS OF
NORTHEAST TENNESSEE EARLY TODAY...AS WELL AS CONTINUED SNOWFALL
ALONG THE MOUNTAINS OF EAST TENNESSEE AND SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA
THROUGH SATURDAY EVENING. IN ADDITION...OVERNIGHT FREEZING
TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED ACROSS THE REGION THROUGH MONDAY MORNING.

BELOW FREEZING TEMPERATURES SUNDAY AND MONDAY MORNING.
