Winter Weather Advisory

URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE...UPDATED
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MORRISTOWN TN
926 PM EST MON FEB 8 2016

...WINTER STORM TO IMPACT THE REGION TONIGHT THROUGH THE MIDDLE
PART OF THE WEEK...

.COLDER AIR WILL BE MOVING INTO THE REGION FROM THE NORTHWEST
OVERNIGHT TONIGHT...AND BRING WITH IT MUCH COLDER TEMPERATURES AND
SNOW. THE PRECIPITATION HAS NOW CHANGED OVER TO SHOW SHOWERS AS
THE COLDER AIR CONTINUES TO MOVE INTO THE AREA.

LIGHT SNOW SHOWERS ARE EXPECTED TO CONTINUE OVER THE VALLEY
TONIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT...THEN TAPER OFF FROM THE SOUTHWEST
WEDNESDAY.

IN THE VALLEY...MOSTLY LIGHT SNOW SHOWERS ARE EXPECTED...HOWEVER
IN THE EAST TENNESSEE MOUNTAINS...MODERATE TO HEAVY SNOW IS
EXPECTED ON AND OFF THROUGH WEDNESDAY...WITH AMOUNTS OF 6-10
INCHES EXPECTED ALONG THE MOUNTAIN PEAKS...WITH LOCALLY HIGHER
AMOUNTS.

ADDITIONALLY...VERY COLD WIND CHILL TEMPERATURES WILL ACCOMPANY
THE SNOWS WITH READINGS IN THE SINGLE DIGITS IN THE VALLEY AND AS
COLD AS -5 TO -15 DEGREES IN THE MOUNTAINS BY TUESDAY NIGHT.

WEDNESDAY...

* EVENT...A SERIES OF UPPER-LEVEL DISTURBANCES WILL SWEEP ACROSS
  THE AREA OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS AND NIGHTS...BRINGING
  SEVERAL PERIODS OF SNOW SHOWERS TO THE REGION. DURING THE
  EVENT...SNOWFALL AMOUNTS WILL RANGE FROM 2 TO 4 INCHES OVER THAT
  PERIOD OF TIME...WITH A FEW LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS POSSIBLE ALONG
  THE HIGH TERRAIN.

* TIMING...CONTINUING TONIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT...THEN
  TAPERING OFF WEDNESDAY.

* IMPACTS...THE SNOW COULD CAUSE HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS...
  ESPECIALLY ON SECONDARY ROADS.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR SNOW MEANS THAT PERIODS OF SNOW ARE
EXPECTED OR OCCURRING...BUT ACCUMULATIONS ARE EXPECTED TO BE
LIGHT.  DRIVING AND WALKING MAY BE DIFFICULT ON UNTREATED
ROADWAYS AND SIDEWALKS. BE PREPARED FOR SNOW COVERED ROADS AND
LIMITED VISIBILITIES. IF YOU MUST TRAVEL...SLOW DOWN AND ALLOW
EXTRA TIME TO REACH YOUR DESTINATION.

TENNESSEE..AND PLATEAU TONIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY...
...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR PARTS OF THE SOUTHERN VALLEY TONIGHT
THROUGH TUESDAY...
...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY ELSEWHERE TONIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT...

A SECONDARY COLD FRONT WILL CONTINUE TO MOVE ACROSS THE REGION
TONIGHT PRODUCING SHOWERS AND BRINGING IN A MUCH COLDER AIR MASS.
FOR THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS...THE PREDOMINANT PRECIPITATION TYPE WILL
BE SNOW SHOWERS AND MAINLY RAIN SHOWERS ACROSS THE LOWER ELEVATIONS
THROUGH EARLY TONIGHT...CHANGING TO ALL SNOW SHOWERS AND FLURRIES AT
LOWER ELEVATIONS BY LATE EVENING AND CONTINUE THROUGH THE NIGHT.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...TUESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY...

...MUCH COLDER AIR AND PERIODS OF SNOW SHOWERS/FLURRIES WILL
CONTINUE THROUGH WEDNESDAY...

MUCH COLDER AIR WILL MOVE INTO THE AREA EARLY TUESDAY MORNING.
SNOW SHOWERS AND FLURRIES WILL PERSIST THROUGH WEDNESDAY ACROSS
MUCH OF THE REGION. DUE TO THE DURATION OF THE SNOW...HEAVY SNOW
ACCUMULATIONS ARE EXPECTED ACROSS THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF THE FAR
EASTERN TENNESSEE MOUNTAINS AND HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF SOUTHWEST
VIRGINIA.

LIGHTER SNOWFALL IS EXPECTED ACROSS THE TENNESSEE VALLEY AND
CUMBERLAND PLATEAU.

BESIDES THE SNOW...HIGHS TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY WILL ONLY CLIMB INTO
THE MIDDLE 20S TO LOWER 30S WITH LOWS DROPPING INTO THE TEENS MOST
LOCATIONS. WIND CHILLS ACROSS THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF THE FAR
EAST TENNESSEE MOUNTAINS AND SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA WILL DROP TO 5 TO
15 DEGREES BELOW ZERO AT TIMES. A WIND CHILL ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT
FROM TUESDAY EVENING THROUGH THURSDAY MORNING FOR THE HIGHER
ELEVATIONS OF THE FAR EASTERN TENNESSEE MOUNTAINS.
