...ELEVATED HEAT INDEX VALUES FOR THE REMAINDER OF THIS WEEK INTO
THIS WEEKEND...

INCREASING HUMIDITIES COMBINED WITH AFTERNOON TEMPERATURES IN THE
UPPER 90S TO LOWER 100S HAS CAUSED A NOTICEABLE INCREASE IN HEAT
INDEX VALUES TODAY. THESE ELEVATED HEAT INDEX VALUES WILL CONTINUE
THROUGH AT LEAST SATURDAY AS HIGH PRESSURE BUILDS BACK OVER SOUTH
CENTRAL TEXAS. HEAT INDEX VALUES WILL APPROACH BUT REMAIN BELOW
HEAT ADVISORY CRITERIA OF 108 IN THE COASTAL PLAINS AND 110 IN THE
RIO GRANDE PLAINS. ELSEWHERE...HEAT INDEX VALUES WILL BE IN THE
100 TO 105 RANGE...EXCEPT LOWER IN PARTS OF THE HILL COUNTRY. THE
HIGHEST THREAT DAY FOR HEAT ADVISORIES IS SATURDAY. THE HIGHEST
THREAT AREA IS NEAR THE COASTAL PLAINS. HUMIDITIES WILL DECREASE
SUNDAY INTO EARLY NEXT WEEK BRINGING LOWER HEAT INDEX VALUES.

IN ADDITION TO HIGH HEAT INDEX VALUES...DIRECT EXPOSURE TO
SUNLIGHT CAN ALSO CONTRIBUTE TO DEHYDRATION AND AN INCREASED
LIKELIHOOD OF HEAT RELATED ILLNESS. TAKE EXTRA PRECAUTIONS IF YOU
PLAN TO BE OUTSIDE. WHEN POSSIBLE...RESCHEDULE STRENUOUS AFTERNOON
ACTIVITIES FOR THE EARLY MORNING OR EVENING HOURS. KNOW THE SIGNS
AND SYMPTOMS OF HEAT EXHAUSTION AND HEAT STROKE.

IF YOU ARE OUTDOORS...DRINK PLENTY OF WATER...WEAR LIGHT WEIGHT
AND LIGHT COLORED CLOTHING...AND TAKE FREQUENT BREAKS FROM THE
HEAT. NEVER LEAVE A CHILD OR PET UNATTENDED IN A VEHICLE...AS
INTERIORS WILL REACH LETHAL TEMPERATURES IN A MATTER OF MINUTES
AFTER TURNING OFF THE AIR CONDITIONING. BEAT THE HEAT...CHECK THE
BACK SEAT!
