* FLOOD WARNING FOR...
  RAIN AND SNOW MELT IN...
  TAZEWELL COUNTY IN SOUTHWESTERN VIRGINIA...
  SUMMERS COUNTY IN SOUTHEASTERN WEST VIRGINIA...
  GREENBRIER COUNTY IN SOUTHEASTERN WEST VIRGINIA...
  MERCER COUNTY IN SOUTHEASTERN WEST VIRGINIA...
  MONROE COUNTY IN SOUTHEASTERN WEST VIRGINIA...

* UNTIL 845 AM EST THURSDAY

* AT 805 PM EST...STREAM GAGES IN THE WARNED AREA CONTINUE
  TO INDICATE SIGNIFICANT SNOW MELT FLOODING ACROSS THE AREA AND WIDESPREAD
  FLOODING CONTINUES TO BE REPORTED ON NUMEROUS STREAMS AND CREEKS MAINLY
  IN TAZEWELL AND MERCER COUNTIES BUT ALSO IN PARTS OF GREENBRIER COUNTY.

RAINFALL UP TO A HALF-INCH /0.50/ OR MORE IS POSSIBLE TONIGHT WHICH COULD
PRODUCE ADDITIONAL RISES ON RIVERS AND STREAMS...BEFORE A CHANGE TO FROZEN
PRECIPITATION OCCURS EARLY TOMORROW MORNING REDUCING RUNOFF SHARPLY.

FLOODING CONTINUES ALONG THE CLINCH RIVER IN TAZEWELL COUNTY BUT THE
RIVER GAGE NEAR RICHLANDS CRESTED IN THE PAST HOUR AT 12.25 FEET. FLOOD
STAGE IS 10 FEET. WITH MORE RAINFALL ON THE WAY THE RIVER COULD BRIEFLY
RISE AGAIN LATER THIS EVENING POSSIBLY ABOVE THE EARLIER CREST.

THE BLUESTONE RIVER IN MERCER COUNTY WAS AT 16 FEET JUST BEFORE
8 PM AND STILL RISING. MODERATE FLOOD STAGE IS 15 FEET AND MAJOR
FLOOD STAGE IS 18 FEET.

EXTENSIVE LOWLAND FLOODING IS OCCURRING ALONG MUCH OF THE RIVER AND
SIGNIFICANT PORTIONS OF ROUTE 19 ARE CLOSED NEAR SPANISHBURG.

BRUSH CREEK IN MERCER COUNTY IS ALSO STILL RISING AND COULD PRODUCE
FLOODING NEAR AND WEST OF PRINCETON.

INDIAN CREEK NEAR RED SULPHUR SPRINGS IN MONROE COUNTY IS ALSO ABOVE ITS
MINOR FLOOD STAGE OF 8 FEET AND IS STILL RISING. LOWLAND FLOODING
IS LIKELY AND SOME ROADS MAY BE AFFECTED INCLUDING COUNTY ROAD 23.

NUMEROUS UNGAGED STREAMS AND CREEKS ARE ALSO LIKELY FLOODING AND COULD
POSE AN EQUAL THREAT.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

BE ESPECIALLY CAUTIOUS AT NIGHT WHEN IT IS HARDER TO RECOGNIZE THE
DANGERS OF FLOODING. IF FLOODING IS OBSERVED ACT QUICKLY. MOVE UP TO
HIGHER GROUND TO ESCAPE FLOOD WATERS. DO NOT STAY IN AREAS SUBJECT TO
FLOODING WHEN WATER BEGINS RISING.

...RAIN TO SLEET TO SNOW WILL BRING SLICK TRAVEL OVER MUCH OF THE
REGION VERY LATE TONIGHT AND THURSDAY...

.A SLOW MOVING COLD FRONT ALONG THE APPALACHIANS WILL DRIFT SLOWLY
SOUTHEAST THROUGH THE AREA OVERNIGHT. COLDER AIR WORKING IN
BEHIND THE FRONT WILL BE CHANGING ANY RAIN TO SLEET ACROSS THE
MOUNTAINS...THEN SNOW AS WE HEAD THROUGH THE OVERNIGHT INTO
THURSDAY. THE WINTRY WEATHER WILL MAKE IT EAST OF THE BLUE RIDGE
AFTER DAWN...BUT MAY NOT REACH PORTIONS OF THE PIEDMONT UNTIL
AFTERNOON. SOME PATCHY FREEZING RAIN WILL ALSO BE POSSIBLE IN THE
MOUNTAINS DURING THE TRANSITION.

* HAZARD TYPES...FREEZING RAIN...SLEET AND SNOW.

* ACCUMULATIONS...SNOW AND SLEET ACCUMULATION OF 1 TO 3 INCHES...WITH
  LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS POSSIBLE NORTHWEST OF INTERSTATE 81. LESS
  THAN A TENTH OF AN INCH OF ICE IN ISOLATED AREAS.

* TIMING...RAIN WILL CHANGE TO FREEZING RAIN AND SLEET BEFORE
  DAYBREAK THURSDAY...THEN CHANGE TO MAINLY SNOW BETWEEN DAWN AND
  MIDDAY.

* IMPACTS...SNOW...SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN WILL LEAD TO
  HAZARDOUS TRAVEL CONDITIONS.

* WINDS...NORTHWEST 5 TO 15 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 30 MPH.

* TEMPERATURES...FALLING INTO THE MID 20S TO AROUND 30 THURSDAY.
