THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA AND
SOUTHEAST WEST VIRGINIA.

PLEASE LISTEN TO NOAA WEATHER RADIO OR GO TO WEATHER.GOV ON THE
INTERNET FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE FOLLOWING HAZARDS.

FLASH FLOOD WATCH.

  EXCESSIVE RAINFALL POSSIBLE TODAY AND TONIGHT.  STORMS TODAY
  WILL BE VERY RAIN EFFICIENT...WITH RAINFALL RATES OF 2 TO 3
  INCHES AN HOUR.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...SATURDAY THROUGH THURSDAY.

PERIODIC ROUNDS OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED ACROSS
THE REGION THROUGH THIS UPCOMING WEEKEND...BRINGING A RISK OF
THUNDERSTORMS WITH EXCESSIVE RAINFALL.

OHIO VALLEY TODAY...THESE STORMS MOVING SOUTHEAST INTO WEST
VIRGINIA AND SOUTHWESTERN VIRGINIA. STORMS MAY REPEATEDLY MOVE
OVER THE SAME AREAS...RESULTING IN EXCESSIVE RAINFALL.

THE FLASH FLOOD WATCH CONTINUES FOR

* PORTIONS OF SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA AND SOUTHEAST WEST VIRGINIA...
  INCLUDING THE FOLLOWING AREAS...IN SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA...
  BLAND...GILES...MONTGOMERY...PULASKI...SMYTH...TAZEWELL AND
  WYTHE. IN SOUTHEAST WEST VIRGINIA...GREENBRIER...MERCER...
  MONROE AND SUMMERS.

* THROUGH LATE TONIGHT

* SEVERAL ROUNDS OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED TODAY
  AND TONIGHT. RAINFALL OF 1 TO 3 INCHES IS POSSIBLE...THE HIGHER
  AMOUNTS OCCURRING WHERE STORMS PASS REPEATEDLY OVER THE SAME
  AREA. IF RAINFALL AMOUNTS EXCEED 2 INCHES IN AN HOUR OR LESS...
  FLASH FLOODING WILL OCCUR.

* THE GROUND HAS BEEN MOISTENED BY A WETTER THAN NORMAL AUGUST.
  THIS HAS ALLOWED STREAMS TO RETURN TO NORMAL OR SLIGHTLY ABOVE
  NORMAL...ESPECIALLY ACROSS SOUTHERN WEST VIRGINIA AND
  SOUTHWESTERN VIRGINIA. HEAVY RAINFALL TODAY WILL LIKELY CAUSE
  STREAMS TO RISE MORE...AND IF THE HEAVY RAIN FALLS IN A SHORT
  ENOUGH PERIOD OF TIME...FLASH FLOODING WILL OCCUR.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A FLASH FLOOD WATCH MEANS THAT CONDITIONS MAY DEVELOP THAT LEAD
TO FLASH FLOODING. FLASH FLOODING IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION.
YOU SHOULD MONITOR LATER FORECASTS AND BE PREPARED TO TAKE ACTION
SHOULD FLASH FLOOD WARNINGS BE ISSUED.
