THROUGH TUESDAY AFTERNOON...

THE FLASH FLOOD WATCH CONTINUES FOR

* A PORTION OF NORTH AND CENTRAL NEW MEXICO...INCLUDING THE
  FOLLOWING AREAS...CHAVES COUNTY PLAINS...CURRY COUNTY...DE BACA
  COUNTY AND ROOSEVELT COUNTY.

* FROM 3 PM MDT THIS AFTERNOON THROUGH TUESDAY AFTERNOON

* AN UPPER LEVEL LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL APPROACH SLOWLY FROM
  SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA AND ARIZONA TODAY AND PASS OVER NEW MEXICO ON
  TUESDAY. AT THE SAME TIME...MOISTURE FROM THE GULF OF MEXICO WILL
  MOVE INTO THE EASTERN PLAINS...SETTING THE STAGE FOR
  THUNDERSTORMS CAPABLE OF EXCESSIVE RAINFALL. THE ATMOSPHERE WILL
  DESTABILIZE TODAY AND CONTINUE TO BE UNSTABLE THROUGH LATE
  TUESDAY...ALLOWING FOR MULTIPLE ROUNDS OF THUNDERSTORMS. THE MAIN
  FOCUS AREA WILL BE OVER PORTIONS OF THE EAST CENTRAL AND
  SOUTHEAST PLAINS...SOUTH OF INTERSTATE 40...WHERE RAINFALL
  AMOUNTS AROUND TWO INCHES WILL BE COMMON. HOWEVER...LOCALIZED
  AREAS MAY SEE STORM TOTAL RAINFALL AMOUNTS NEAR FOUR INCHES
  BETWEEN MONDAY AFTERNOON AND TUESDAY AFTERNOON.

* LOCATIONS MOST VULNERABLE TO FLASH FLOODING WILL INCLUDE POOR
  DRAINAGE AREAS...AREAS AROUND THE CAPROCK ESCARPMENT AND THE
  CITIES OF ROSWELL...FORT SUMNER...PORTALES AND CLOVIS.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A FLASH FLOOD WATCH MEANS THAT CONDITIONS MAY DEVELOP THAT LEAD TO
FLASH FLOODING. FLASH FLOODING IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION.
MONITOR LATER FORECASTS AND BE PREPARED TO TAKE ACTION SHOULD FLASH
FLOOD WARNINGS BE ISSUED.

  INCLUDING THE FOLLOWING AREAS...IN NORTHWEST TEXAS...BAILEY...
  COCHRAN...HALE...HOCKLEY...LAMB...LUBBOCK...LYNN...TERRY AND
  YOAKUM. IN THE PANHANDLE OF TEXAS...CASTRO...PARMER AND
  SWISHER.

* THROUGH TUESDAY MORNING

* SEVERAL ROUNDS OF HEAVY THUNDERSTORMS WILL MOVE ACROSS THE WATCH
  AREA THIS EVENING AND OVERNIGHT. THE RAIN COVERAGE AND INTENSITY
  IS EXPECTED TO PEAK OVERNIGHT. WIDESPREAD RAIN TOTALS OF 1 TO 2
  INCHES ARE EXPECTED...WITH LOCALIZED 3 TO 5 INCH AMOUNTS
  POSSIBLE WHERE STORMS REPEATEDLY TRACK OVER THE SAME AREA. THE
  HEAVY RAIN THREAT MAY PERSIST INTO TUESDAY.

* THE HEAVY RAIN WILL PRODUCE RAPID RUNOFF WHICH MAY RESULT IN
  AREAS OF FLASH FLOODING AND INUNDATION FLOODING.
