THROUGH FRIDAY EVENING...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN BUFFALO HAS ISSUED A LAKE EFFECT
SNOW WATCH...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM LATE THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH
FRIDAY EVENING.

* LOCATIONS...CHAUTAUQUA...CATTARAUGUS AND SOUTHERN ERIE
  COUNTIES...WITH THE GREATEST SNOW AMOUNTS EXPECTED JUST INLAND
  FROM LAKE ERIE ACROSS THE BOSTON HILLS AND SKI COUNTRY THROUGH
  THURSDAY. LATE THURSDAY NIGHT AND FRIDAY A NARROW BAND OF
  STEADIER SNOW WILL DEVELOP AND MAY BRING LOCALLY HEAVY SNOW
  BETWEEN DUNKIRK AND BLASDELL...EXTENDING EASTWARD INTO THE
  BOSTON HILLS AND CHAUTAUQUA RIDGE.

* TIMING...THE LAKE EFFECT SNOW WARNING IS IN EFFECT THROUGH
  LATE THURSDAY AFTERNOON. THE LAKE EFFECT SNOW WATCH IS IN
  EFFECT FROM OVERNIGHT THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH EARLY FRIDAY
  EVENING.

* ACCUMULATIONS...AN ADDITIONAL 3 TO 6 INCHES TONIGHT AND ON THURSDAY.
  THEN A TOTAL OF 6 TO 10 INCHES OF SNOW IS POSSIBLE LATE THURSDAY
  NIGHT AND FRIDAY.

* WINDS...WEST 15 TO 25 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 35 MPH.

* VISIBILITIES...AS LOW AS A QUARTER MILE AT TIMES.

* IMPACTS...LAKE EFFECT SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW WILL RESULT IN
  DIFFICULT TRAVEL AT TIMES WITH SNOW COVERED ROADS AND GREATLY
  REDUCED VISIBILITIES.

* FORECASTER CONFIDENCE...FORECAST CONFIDENCE IN THE WATCH IS
  AVERAGE. THERE IS STILL SOME UNCERTAINTY IN THE LOCATION AND
  INTENSITY A BAND WHICH IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP LATE THURSDAY
  NIGHT AND FRIDAY.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

IN LAKE EFFECT SNOW THE WEATHER CAN VARY FROM LOCALLY HEAVY SNOW
IN NARROW BANDS TO CLEAR SKIES JUST A FEW MILES AWAY. IF YOU WILL
BE TRAVELING ACROSS THE REGION BE PREPARED FOR RAPID CHANGES IN
ROAD AND VISIBILITY CONDITIONS.

IF YOU LOSE POWER AND PLAN ON RUNNING A GENERATOR...MAKE SURE
THAT THE GENERATOR IS LOCATED OUTDOORS AND IS PROPERLY
VENTILATED. SPACE HEATERS SHOULD ALSO BE PROPERLY VENTILATED AND
USED ONLY IF THEY ARE OPERATING PROPERLY. MAKE SURE SNOW DOES NOT
BLOCK EXHAUSTS AND FRESH AIR INTAKES FOR HIGH EFFICIENCY FURNACES
AND WATER HEATERS.

* IMPACTS...LAKE EFFECT SNOW WILL RESULT IN HAZARDOUS TRAVEL AT
  TIMES WITH SNOW COVERED ROADS AND GREATLY REDUCED VISIBILITIES.

* FORECASTER CONFIDENCE...ABOVE AVERAGE. AN INTENSE BAND OF HEAVY
  LAKE EFFECT SNOW IS LIKELY TO DEVELOP FRIDAY AND IMPACT PORTIONS
  OF JEFFERSON COUNTY.

* LOCATIONS...SOUTHERN SAINT LAWRENCE COUNTY...ESPECIALLY AREAS
  WEST OF ROUTE 56 AND SOUTH OF ROUTE 3.

* HAZARD TYPES...SNOW...HEAVY AT TIMES.

* ACCUMULATIONS...4 TO 6 INCHES OF SNOW WITH LOCALLY HIGHER
  AMOUNTS.

* MAXIMUM SNOWFALL RATE...UP TO 1 INCH PER HOUR...MAINLY FRIDAY
  AFTERNOON THROUGH EVENING.

* TIMING...A BAND OF LAKE EFFECT SNOW SHOWERS WILL MOVE INTO THE
  SAINT LAWRENCE VALLEY FRIDAY MORNING AND CONTINUE TO AFFECT THE
  AREA THROUGH FRIDAY EVENING.

* IMPACTS...DIFFICULT TRAVEL DUE TO MODERATE TO HEAVY SNOWFALL
  ACCUMULATING ON ROADS AS WELL AS REDUCED VISIBILITIES.

* WINDS...SOUTHWEST 5 TO 10 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 25 MPH.

* TEMPERATURES...HIGHS AROUND 20. LOWS 10 BELOW TO ZERO.

* VISIBILITIES...A HALF MILE OR LESS AT TIMES.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A LAKE EFFECT SNOW WATCH MEANS THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR A LARGE
AMOUNT OF SNOW IN ONLY A FEW HOURS. VISIBILITIES AND DEPTH OF
SNOW CAN VARY GREATLY...IMPACTING TRAVEL SIGNIFICANTLY. CONTINUE
TO MONITOR THE LATEST FORECASTS.
