COASTAL HAZARD MESSAGE
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE BROWNSVILLE TX
1002 PM CDT TUE OCT 21 2014

...MINOR COASTAL FLOODING POSSIBLE THROUGH WEDNESDAY NIGHT...

.SURFACE HIGH PRESSURE OVER THE NORTHERN GULF OF MEXICO WILL
CONTINUE TO INTERACT WITH NEWLY FORMED TROPICAL DEPRESSION NINE
OVER THE SOUTHERN BAY OF CAMPECHE TO PRODUCE A LONG FETCH OF
MODERATE TO STRONG EAST TO NORTHEAST WINDS FROM THE EAST ACROSS
MUCH OF THE GULF OF MEXICO. THESE WINDS WILL MAINTAIN ELEVATED
GULF SWELLS THAT WILL APPROACH AND PILE UP ON THE LOWER TEXAS
COAST FROM THE EAST. THESE SWELLS WILL COMBINE WITH HIGHER THAN
NORMAL ASTRONOMICAL HIGH TIDES TO PRODUCE MINOR COASTAL FLOODING
AT THE BEACHES OF SOUTH PADRE ISLAND AND AT BOCA CHICA BEACH FROM
LATE TONIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY NIGHT.

* COASTAL FLOODING...BRIEF PERIODS OF OVER WASH WILL BE POSSIBLE
  AROUND HIGH TIDE ON PADRE ISLAND...WITH GULF WATERS POSSIBLY
  RUNNING UP TO THE DUNES.

* TIMING...MINOR COASTAL FLOODING IS MOST LIKELY AROUND HIGH
  TIDE...WHICH IS EXPECTED TO OCCUR AT THE SOUTH PADRE ISLAND
  JETTIES AT 123 AM WEDNESDAY AND AGAIN AT 404 PM WEDNESDAY.
  ASTRONOMICAL HIGH TIDES ARE PREDICTED TO BE BETWEEN 1.0 AND
  1.5 FEET ABOVE NORMAL.

* IMPACTS...THE MINOR COASTAL FLOODING MAY MAKE WALKING ON AREA
  BEACHES AND DRIVING ON THE BEACHES DIFFICULT. AN ELEVATED RIP
  CURRENT RISK IS EXPECTED TO PERSIST THROUGHOUT TONIGHT AND
  WEDNESDAY. MINOR BEACH EROSION MAY OCCUR THROUGH TOMORROW
  NIGHT.
