...LAKE EFFECT SNOW IN IRON AND ASHLAND COUNTIES THIS MORNING...

.A STRONG SURGE OF COLD AIR FROM CANADA IS MOVING OVER THE
RELATIVELY WARM LAKE SUPERIOR...AND THIS WILL CONTINUE TO RESULT
IN LAKE EFFECT SNOW OVER PARTS OF NORTHWEST WISCONSIN THIS
MORNING. THE LAKE EFFECT SNOW INTENSITY WILL GRADUALLY DECREASE
THROUGH THE REMAINDER OF THIS MORNING. PARTS OF IRON COUNTY CAN
EXPECT TOTAL SNOWFALL BETWEEN 2 AND 6 INCHES...AND ASHLAND ABOUT 2
TO 4 INCHES. THE HIGHEST AMOUNTS WILL LIKELY BE ALONG THE HIGHER
TERRAIN IN THE GOGEBIC RANGE IN IRON COUNTY.

SNOW ADVISORY...WHICH IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 AM CDT THIS MORNING.

* LOCATION...ASHLAND COUNTY.

* TIMING...THIS MORNING. THE SNOWFALL INTENSITY WILL GRADUALLY
  DECREASE LATER THIS MORNING.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS...A TOTAL OF 2 TO 4 INCHES...INCLUDING WHAT
  HAS FALLEN SO FAR EARLIER IN THE NIGHT.

* WINDS/VISIBILITY...10 TO 15 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS. THERE COULD BE
  PATCHY BLOWING SNOW WHICH WOULD REDUCE VISIBILITY IN THE MORE
  INTENSE SNOW BANDS.

* IMPACTS...TRAVEL COULD BE DIFFICULT THIS MORNING.

A LAKE EFFECT SNOW ADVISORY MEANS LAKE-EFFECT SNOW IS FORECAST
THAT WILL MAKE TRAVEL DIFFICULT IN SOME AREAS. LAKE-EFFECT SNOW
SHOWERS TYPICALLY ALIGN THEMSELVES IN BANDS AND WILL LIKELY BE
INTENSE ENOUGH TO DROP SEVERAL INCHES IN LOCALIZED AREAS. USE

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS...A TOTAL OF 2 TO 6 INCHES. THE HIGHEST
  AMOUNTS WILL LIKELY BE ACROSS THE ELEVATED TERRAIN IN THE
  GOGEBIC RANGE. THERE WERE SNOWFALL REPORTS OF 4 INCHES IN GILE
  AND MERCER AS OF ABOUT 12 AM THIS MORNING.

* WINDS/VISIBILITY...10 TO 15 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS. THERE COULD BE
  PATCHY BLOWING SNOW WHICH WOULD REDUCE VISIBILITY IN THE MORE
  INTENSE SNOW BANDS.

.AN INTENSE UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE WILL EXIT THE REGION THIS
MORNING...ALLOWING A COLD CANADIAN AIR MASS TO SURGE INTO THE
STATE. THE COLD AIR WAS ARRIVING ON GUSTY NORTH WINDS. THE COLD
AIR FLOWING ACROSS LAKE SUPERIOR WILL RESULT IN A CONTINUATION OF
PERIODS OF SNOW SHOWERS THIS MORNING.

  WILL DIMINISH TO FLURRIES MID-DAY.

* ANOTHER INCH OR TWO OF ACCUMULATION IS EXPECTED DURING THE
  DAY...MAINLY IN THE SNOWBELT OF NORTHERN VILAS COUNTY. THAT IS
  IN ADDITION TO THE SNOW THAT FELL OVERNIGHT.

* GUSTY NORTH WINDS WILL GENERATE SOME BLOWING AND DRIFTING OF
  THE SNOW.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A LAKE EFFECT SNOW ADVISORY MEANS LAKE EFFECT SNOW IS LIKELY TO
MAKE TRAVEL DIFFICULT IN SOME AREAS. THE COMBINATION OF SNOW AND
GUSTY WINDS WILL RESULT IN HAZARDOUS TRAVEL CONDITIONS. SINCE
THIS IS THE FIRST SUBSTANTIAL WINTER WEATHER EPISODE OF THE
SEASON...IT MAY TAKE SOME DRIVERS A LITTLE TIME TO READJUST TO
DRIVING IN WINTER WEATHER CONDITIONS. USE EXTRA CAUTION WHEN
TRAVELING TODAY.

   LOOK FOR THE GREATEST ACCUMULATION OVER THE HIGHER TERRAIN FROM
   WAKEFIELD THROUGH ROCKLAND...TO HANCOCK AND MOHAWK. EXPECT THE
   LEAST ACCUMULATION ALONG THE LAKE SUPERIOR SHORELINE.

IMPACTS...

 * THE WET SNOW ACCUMULATION WILL RESULT IN SLIPPERY CONDITIONS ON
   AREA ROADWAYS THIS MORNING.

 * NORTH WINDS GUSTING TO 25 MPH AT TIMES MAY ALSO PRODUCE SOME
   BLOWING SNOW AND REDUCED VISIBILITY.
