...FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM 2 PM EDT THIS AFTERNOON THROUGH THIS
EVENING...

* WHAT...Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible.

* WHERE...Portions of central, northern, and northwest Virginia,
  including the following areas, in central Virginia, Albemarle,
  Greene, King George, Orange and Spotsylvania. In northern
  Virginia, Culpeper, Southern Fauquier and Stafford. In northwest
  Virginia, Madison and Rappahannock.

* WHEN...From 2 PM EDT this afternoon through this evening.

* IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers,
  creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.
  Low-water crossings may be flooded.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
  - Showers and thunderstorms will develop and move across the
    area this afternoon to evening. Thunderstorms will be capable
    of producing very heavy rainfall, with amounts of 1 to 2
    inches in 30 minutes possible. Widespread totals around 1
    inch are forecast, with up to 2 to 4 inches of rain under the
    strongest storms. This could lead to scattered instances of
    flash flooding.

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be
  possible.

* WHERE...Portions of northeast North Carolina, including the
  following areas, Bertie, Camden, Chowan, Eastern Currituck, Gates,
  Hertford, Pasquotank, Perquimans and Western Currituck and
  Virginia, including the following areas, Caroline, Charles City,
  Chesapeake, Dinwiddie, Eastern Chesterfield (Including Col.
  Heights), Eastern Essex, Eastern Hanover, Eastern Henrico, Eastern
  King William, Eastern King and Queen, Eastern Louisa, Fluvanna,
  Gloucester, Goochland, Hampton/Poquoson, Isle of Wight, James
  City, Lancaster, Mathews, Middlesex, New Kent, Newport News,
  Northumberland, Powhatan, Prince George (including Hopewell and
  Petersburg), Richmond, Southampton, Suffolk, Surry, Sussex,
  Virginia Beach, Western Chesterfield, Western Essex, Western
  Hanover, Western Henrico (Including the City of Richmond), Western

  creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.
  Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
  - Additional showers and thunderstorms are expected this
    afternoon and evening. A very moist airmass and strong
    instability suggests high rainfall rates of 2-4" per hour
    will be possible. These rainfall amounts could fall on areas
    that have received significant rainfall over the past week,
    exacerbating any flooding impacts.
