POINTS...RESULTING IN HEAT INDICES BETWEEN 110 AND 116 DEGREES
OVER PORTIONS OF SOUTH TEXAS.

* TEMPERATURE...HEAT INDICES BETWEEN 110 DEGREES AND 116
  DEGREES. THESE VALUES WILL OCCUR FROM EARLY THIS AFTERNOON
  THROUGH EARLY THIS EVENING.

* IMPACTS...EXTENDED OUTDOOR ACTIVITY COULD LEAD TO HEAT
  EXHAUSTION OR HEAT STROKE.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A HEAT ADVISORY MEANS THAT HEAT INDICES OF 110 DEGREES OR HIGHER
ARE EXPECTED OVER MOST OF THE AREA FOR AT LEAST TWO HOURS.
PROLONGED EXPOSURE COMBINED WITH PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COULD CAUSE
HEAT EXHAUSTION AND EVEN HEAT STROKE. THE ELDERLY... THE VERY
YOUNG... THE SICK... AND PEOPLE WITH HEART CONDITIONS ARE MOST AT
RISK IN EXTREME HEAT.

WEAR LIGHTWEIGHT... LIGHT-COLORED CLOTHING... AS IT REFLECTS HEAT
AND SUNLIGHT AND HELPS YOUR BODY STAY COOLER. DRINK PLENTY OF
LIQUIDS... PREFERABLY WATER... EVEN IF YOU DO NOT FEEL THIRSTY.
AVOID ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES.

TRY TO GET OUT OF THE HEAT FOR A FEW HOURS EACH DAY AND INTO AN
AIR CONDITIONED PLACE OR SWIMMING POOL.

REDUCE... ELIMINATE... OR RESCHEDULE STRENUOUS ACTIVITIES TO THE
COOLEST TIMES OF THE DAY. IF YOU MUST BE OUTSIDE... REDUCE YOUR
ACTIVITIES. DRINK PLENTY OF WATER... TAKE FREQUENT BREAKS AND
WEAR LIGHT-COLORED CLOTHING.

AREAS ALONG THE RIO GRANDE RIVER ALONG THE BIG BEND AND LOWER
TRANS PECOS REGIONS...

.INTENSE HEAT WILL CONTINUE THIS AFTERNOON ALONG THE RIO GRANDE
RIVER IN BREWSTER AND TERRELL COUNTIES. NOT ONLY WILL DAYTIME
HIGHS CLIMB TO NEAR 105 DEGREES...BUT OVERNIGHT LOWS WILL REMAIN
AT OR ABOVE 75 DEGREES PROVIDING LITTLE RELIEF. THESE CONDITIONS
WILL INCREASE THE RISK OF DEHYDRATION AND HEAT EXHAUSTION.

  80.

* IMPACTS...DEHYDRATION AND HEAT ILLNESSES CAN BE EXPECTED WITH
  OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES WITHOUT PRECAUTIONS BEING TAKEN.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

TAKE EXTRA PRECAUTIONS IF YOU WORK OR SPEND TIME OUTSIDE. WHEN
POSSIBLE...RESCHEDULE STRENUOUS ACTIVITIES TO EARLY MORNING OR
EVENING. KNOW THE SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF HEAT EXHAUSTION AND HEAT
STROKE. WEAR LIGHT WEIGHT AND LOOSE FITTING CLOTHING WHEN
POSSIBLE AND DRINK PLENTY OF WATER.

TO REDUCE RISK DURING OUTDOOR WORK THE OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND
HEALTH ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDS SCHEDULING FREQUENT REST BREAKS
IN SHADED OR AIR CONDITIONED ENVIRONMENTS.

ANYONE OVERCOME BY HEAT SHOULD BE MOVED TO A COOL AND SHADED
LOCATION. HEAT STROKE IS AN EMERGENCY...CALL 911.
