The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Warning for...
  Central Buncombe County in western North Carolina...

* Until 400 PM EDT.

* At 312 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located near Downtown
  Asheville, or near North Asheville, and is nearly stationary.

  HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail.

  SOURCE...Radar indicated.

  IMPACT...Minor hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind
           damage to trees and power lines.

* Locations impacted include...
  Downtown Asheville, East Asheville, West Asheville, North
  Asheville, Woodfin, Weaverville, B.R. Parkway-East Asheville To
  Craggy Gardens, UNC-Asheville, B.R. Parkway-Nc Arboretum To East
  Asheville, and Warren Wilson College.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a
building.

Large hail, damaging wind, and continuous cloud to ground lightning
are occurring with this storm. Move indoors immediately. Lightning is
one of nature`s leading killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder,
you are close enough to be struck by lightning.

           damage to trees and power lines.
