Air Quality Alert Message
Wyoming Air Quality Division
Relayed by the National Weather Service Rapid City SD
408 AM MST Tue Feb 21 2017

...BLOWING DUST HEALTH ALERT IN EFFECT FOR THE POWDER RIVER BASIN OF
NORTHEASTERN WYOMING UNTIL 500 PM THIS AFTERNOON...

Southwesterly winds will remain strong and gusty across much of the
basin through this afternoon. The strongest winds will generally be
around and south of Gillette. Sustained wind speeds will mostly be
25 to 40 mph, with gusts up to 60 mph. Wind speeds will decrease late
this afternoon and early evening.

The Wyoming Air Quality Division recommends the elderly, young
children, and individuals with respiratory problems avoid
excessive physical exertion and minimize outdoor activities during
this time. Although these people are most susceptible to health
impacts, the air quality division also advises that everyone
should avoid prolonged exposure to the poor air quality
conditions.
