...Light Snow Expected This Morning...

An upper-level disturbance and associated Arctic cold front were
moving through the region this morning. In addition, low pressure
across the southeast U.S. will move northeast along the front
toward the Mid-Atlantic coast by Thursday morning. The combination
of these weather systems will bring light snow to much of this
area through the morning, with the snow ending by midday or early
afternoon. Snowfall amounts are expected to be around an inch or
less across these counties, with isolated two inch amounts.

Further east, mainly east of the Blue Ridge, snow is expected to
be heavier and last longer as the aforementioned low pressure
system moves across North Carolina later today and toward the
Mid-Atlantic coast by tomorrow morning. In those areas, Winter
Weather Advisories and Winter Storm Warnings are in effect today
where snow accumulations of 2 to 6 inches are possible. Heavier
snow amounts will also be possible along the typical west facing
slopes of the Alleghanys and into far southwest Virginia. There,
the snowfall is primarily expected this morning.

In addition to the snow, temperatures will be bitterly cold today
and Thursday with near steady or falling temperatures through the
teens west and 20s east today. By Thursday morning low
temperatures will range from the single digits west to 10 to 15
east of the Blue Ridge. Wind chill readings Thursday morning will
range from -15 degrees in western Greenbrier to the 0 to +5 degree
range across the Piedmont.

If you are planning to travel anywhere within the forecast area
today, plan on snow covered roads and bitterly cold temperatures.
Plan accordingly by including extra layers of clothing and extra
blankets. Make sure your gasoline tank is full before you leave
your destination. Reduce speed, leave extra distance between
vehicles, and be especially careful braking.

Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio or commercial radio and
television for the latest weather information.

...Arctic Air Across Eastern Kentucky This Morning With Isolated
Snow Showers Possible...

Temperatures will generally average in the single digits above
zero across eastern Kentucky this morning. Despite the light
winds, wind chill values will average between 0 to 10 below zero
at times. If venturing outside, only do so for a short amount of
time. Cover and protect your head because this is where the
majority of your body heat is lost. Bring pets indoors and ensure
livestock have adequate shelter and access to water.

Snow flurries and/or isolated snow showers are possible this
morning. A dusting of additional snow accumulation is possible
this morning. Road conditions, especially secondary, back, or
untreated roads will likely be icy or snow covered and could
remain hazardous this morning with cold temperatures and
previously fallen snow. Use caution if traveling this morning.

...Very Cold Temperatures and Patchy Ice on Roads Through
Wednesday Morning...

Temperatures will stay below freezing tonight and Wednesday
morning, and any snow or liquid on the roads could turn to ice
with the very cold temperatures. Drivers should use caution
today. What appear to be wet spots on roads may actually be ice.
Motorists need to be especially careful on bridges and overpasses
where slippery spots often develop first.

Temperatures will fall into the teens or single digits overnight,
and even though winds will be light, wind chill values will be
near zero degrees. Dress warmly if you venture out, and keep a
winter travel kit in your vehicle.
