THE MONTANA DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY HAS ISSUED AN AIR
QUALITY ALERT FOR ALL OF NORTH CENTRAL AND SOUTHWEST MONTANA UNTIL
FURTHER NOTICE.

AN AIR QUALITY ALERT MEANS THAT PARTICULATES HAVE BEEN TRENDING
UPWARDS AND THAT AN EXCEEDENCE OF THE 24 HOUR NATIONAL AMBIENT AIR
QUALITY STANDARD (NAAQS) HAS OCCURRED OR MAY OCCUR IN THE NEAR
FUTURE.

AIR QUALITY IN ST MARY...BROWNING...AND GREAT FALLS IS CURRENTLY
VERY UNHEALTHY.

AIR QUALITY IN HELENA AND LEWISTOWN IS CURRENTLY UNHEALTHY.

AIR QUALITY IN BOZEMAN IS CURRENTLY UNHEALTHY FOR SENSITIVE
GROUPS.

WHEN AIR QUALITY LEVELS ARE VERY UNHEALTHY...STATE AND LOCAL HEALTH
OFFICIALS RECOMMEND THAT PEOPLE WITH RESPIRATORY OR HEART DISEASE...
THE ELDERLY...AND CHILDREN SHOULD AVOID ANY OUTDOOR ACTIVITY;
EVERYONE ELSE SHOULD AVOID PROLONGED EXERTION.

Statewide Air Quality Alert in effect *UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE* for the
following agencies:

Idaho Department of Environmental Quality in Idaho Falls
Idaho Department of Environmental Quality in Lewiston
Nez Perce Tribe in Lapwai

Air quality currently is currently in the Very Unhealthy
category and is forecast to remain that way the next 24 hours
in many locations impacted by wildfire smoke in north central Idaho.

Sensitive persons should limit prolonged or heavy exertion and limit
time spent outdoors.

DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY...

DUE TO WILD FIRE SMOKE...THE AIR QUALITY HAS BECOME VERY
UNHEALTHY IN CUSTER COUNTY OF IDAHO INCLUDING THE CITIES OF
STANLEY AND CHALLIS. THIS ADVISORY WILL REMAIN IN EFFECT UNTIL
AIR QUALITY HAS SIGNIFICANTLY IMPROVED.

THOSE INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE SENSITIVE TO INCREASED PARTICULATE OR
SMOKE LEVELS ARE ENCOURAGED TO AVOID ALL OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES. ALL
OTHERS SHOULD SIGNIFICANTLY LIMIT OR AVOID PROLONGED OR STRENUOUS
OUTDOOR ACTIVITY. YOUR COOPERATION IS APPRECIATED.

ANOTHER STATEMENT WILL BE ISSUED ABOUT 2 PM MDT SATURDAY UNLESS
CONDITIONS IMPROVE AND THE ADVISORY IS NO LONGER NEEDED.

The Montana Department of Environmental Quality has issued an Air
Quality Alert for Deer Lodge, Granite, Flathead, Lake, Lincoln,
Powell, Mineral, Missoula, Ravalli, Sanders, and Silver Bow in
effect *UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE*.

An Air Quality Alert means that particulates have been trending
upwards and that an exceedance of the 24 hour National Ambient Air
Quality Standard (NAAQS) has occurred or may occur in the near
future.

Particulate levels from local and regional wildfires are Unhealthy
to Very Unhealthy across all of western Montana.

When air quality levels are Very Unhealthy... the Montana
Department of Health and Human Services recommends that people
with respiratory or heart disease, the elderly and children should
avoid any outdoor activity. Everyone else should avoid prolonged
exertion.
