STRONG AND POTENTIALLY DAMAGING DOWNSLOPE WINDS MAY DEVELOP IN
THE FRONT RANGE FOOTHILLS SATURDAY NIGHT. A POWERFUL JET STREAM
SITTING JUST NORTH OF THE COLORADO STATE LINE...COUPLED WITH A
FAVORABLE SETUP FOR MOUNTAIN WAVES WOULD SUPPORT THE DEVELOPMENT
OF STRONG AND VERY GUSTY WINDS. LOOK FOR WEST WINDS OF 25 TO 45
MPH IN THE FOOTHILLS...WITH POTENTIAL GUSTS AS HIGH AS 90 MPH IN
WIND PRONE AREAS. THESE POWERFUL DOWNSLOPE WINDS...IF THEY DEVELOP
OVERNIGHT...SHOULD WEAKEN IN MOST AREAS SUNDAY MORNING.

* IMPACTS...THESE POWERFUL WINDS COULD CAUSE INTERMITTENT POWER
  OUTAGES...DAMAGE TREES...ROOFS AND POWER LINES...AND
  POTENTIALLY CREATE HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS. HIGH COUNTRY

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN PUEBLO HAS ISSUED A HIGH WIND
WATCH...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM SATURDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH SUNDAY
MORNING.

* LOCATION...PIKES PEAK AND TELLER COUNTY...THE WET MOUNTAINS AND
  THE SANGRE DE CRISTO MOUNTAINS.

* CAUSE AND TIMING...STRONG AND POTENTIALLY DAMAGING WIND GUSTS
  WILL BE POSSIBLE ACROSS THE HIGHER PEAKS AND EAST FACING SLOPES
  OF THE SOUTHEAST MOUNTAINS SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH EARLY SUNDAY
  MORNING.

* WIND...WEST WINDS 40 TO 50 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 80 MPH POSSIBLE.

* IMPACT...STRONG WINDS MAY CAUSE POWER OUTAGES AND RESULT IN
  HAZARDOUS CROSS WINDS ALONG NORTH SOUTH ORIENTED ROADWAYS.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A HIGH WIND WATCH MEANS THERE IS THE POTENTIAL FOR A HAZARDOUS
HIGH WIND EVENT. SUSTAINED WINDS OF AT LEAST 40 MPH...OR GUSTS OF
58 MPH OR STRONGER MAY OCCUR. CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE LATEST
FORECASTS.
