/issued 126 PM MDT Thu May 23 2024/ SHORT TERM...Tonight and Friday Despite Memorial Day quickly approaching, it`s been a cloudy, chilly, windy and for some, snowy, day across eastern Idaho. Afternoon satellite imagery shows an upper low moving into central Wyoming but clouds and moisture associated with this feature remain in place across eastern portions of the forecast area. Did see some light snowfall from around Rexburg up through Island Park this morning and temperatures have warmed up enough in the lower levels for a changeover to rain but light snow still continues in the higher terrain and will continue into the mid evening. Winds remain breezy across much of the area and have extended the Lake Wind Advisory for AF reservoir for a few more hours given the ongoing conditions. As the low continues to push east, should continue to see gradual clearing throughout the overnight allowing temperatures to drop once again close to the freezing mark in the lower elevations and into the 20s across the high country. Another Frost Advisory has been issued accordingly for the growing regions. Friday looks mostly dry as we will see a bit of a break in between weather systems before things become more unsettled once again on Saturday. Temps will remain on the cooler side of normal but should be some 10-15 degrees warmer than Thu high temperatures. Mostly clear skies early will gradually give way to increasing clouds as we start to feel the influence of our next weather system. Could see a few isolated showers up along the Montana Divide and into the central mountains tomorrow but these look to be pretty isolated. McKaughan LONG TERM...Saturday through Thursday We will start out the Memorial Day Weekend on the wet and cool side. It looks fairly showery, with a few afternoon thunderstorms mixed on on Saturday. High temperatures barely hit 60-65 for the valleys, with much colder conditions if you are headed into the higher mountains. It will be breezy, so it will feel even cooler than actual temperatures. We will clear out on Sunday, leaving Memorial Day itself dry it appears. We might see a stray shower over the mountains, but the chance is well below 10%. Temperatures by Monday push back into the 70s for the valleys and 50s/60s for the mountains. Precipitation- wise, don`t expect too much outside some of the higher elevations, where 0.10-0.33" is possible. Snow levels shouldn`t get terribly low, but enough that an inch or two is possible...especially for highest ridges and peaks. High pressure early next week quickly shifts east of the Divide, opening the door up for a return of precipitation heading into the middle of next week. We will remain on the warm side of the weather pattern...which for now means no immediate return to temperatures experienced with recent storms across the state. Keyes AVIATION... We are still contending with showers and a few possible thunderstorms through this evening. We will continue to see conditions with showers dropping down to IFR at times. Gusty winds impacting BYI, PIH and IDA should be gone by late evening. We should see a break until later Friday. Look for VFR overnight and most of tomorrow. Keyes
