VFR through the TAF period. An anticyclone has formed across the
area that has caused winds to turn SE at all airports this
morning. This wind pattern is expected to remain through the day
before shifting to the south around 23Z. There are some
uncertainties with winds remaining S/SE at BJC and there is
potential that they shift to a westerly component around 23Z. If
this were to happen, expect winds to increase out of the west with
gusts up to 25 kts possible for a few hours.

.AVIATION...KSLC...Increasing mid and high VFR clouds will be
common this morning along with southerly winds. Models suggest a
brief wind shift to the SW between 19Z-20Z before shifting to the
more typical NW between 20Z and 21Z. Yesterday`s cold front will
move back north this afternoon, and showers associated with it are
expected to develop towards 00Z, with occasional showers persisting
through Saturday. Model consensus suggests these showers will force
an earlier than usual wind shift to the S, with gusty S winds
continuing through much of the night Friday night. Better than a 90%
chance for VFR conditions through 09Z Saturday morning, but lower
CIG trends emerge after 09Z Saturday morning with showers. Chances
for MVFR approach 40% after 12Z Saturday.
.REST OF UTAH AND SOUTHWEST WYOMING...Increasing mid and high VFR
clouds will be common this morning as yesterday`s cold front moves
back north this afternoon, and showers associated with it are
expected to develop towards 00Z, with occasional showers persisting
through Saturday. Most shower activity will be across central and NE
Utah, but isolated showers possible as far north as near the Idaho
border and as far south as the southern mountains. Gusty S-SW winds
will develop south of the warm front across southern Utah this
afternoon. After midnight tonight, pockets of MVFR CIGs and mountain
obscuration become more common across central and NE Utah associated
with showers.

VFR conditions expected throughout the TAF period for all sites.
Light winds to start with some mid level clouds Friday morning.
Winds will increase west of the Divide gusts up to 18kts ahead
of a weak wave pushing up from the southwest after 21Z. Less
than 10kts for points to the east except CPR with the trailing
system`s gradient and vast openness with gusts up to 25kts after
17Z through peak heating. All winds will diminish after around
02Z with sunset and radiational cooling. Light rain is possible
for RKS with the aforementioned system after 06Z, but
confidence low with its spotty nature carrying PROB30 through
the end of the period at this time. Precipitation will spread
north and northeast throughout the day Saturday becoming more
widespread.

Little change in reasoning since the last TAF package with the
main impact to aircraft operations continuing to be gusty
west/northwest winds that will be increasing through the
morning and continue into the afternoon once diurnal heating
mixes the boundary layer. Will indicate gusts around 30kt at
KLBF but approaching 40kt at KVTN. Winds start to relax later in
the afternoon and will become light after sunset toward the end
of the valid period.
While conditions will generally be VFR, there will be a couple
of hours with MVFR CIGS at KVTN this morning. Mid clouds
increase quickly toward the end of the valid period.
Note: Due to a communications issue observations from the ASOS at
KVTN are not being distributed. However the ASOS continues to
function and is available by dialing in directly on the voice
line.

It now looks like a backdoor front will make it as far southwest
as Roswell by late morning, before retreating during early
afternoon. Farther north the front is forecast to bank up against
the east slopes of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains early this
morning, then retreat by mid day. South and southwest winds will
be gusty again this afternoon, but a little weaker than Thursday`s
wind speeds. A broad area of mid and high clouds is also forecast
to pass northward across the area today with cloud cover
decreasing from south to north in the early evening. Smoke from
well developed wildfires in the Sacramento Mountains and northwest
of Abiquiu Lake will travel to the east and northeast today, then
drain southeastward through river valleys tonight and Saturday
morning. The smoke produced MVFR conditions at KSRR overnight, and
it may do so again for a time this morning before the plume
shifts north of the airport by mid day. Smoke will probably drain
east and southeastward over KSRR with another round of MVFR
ceilings and potentially visibilities tonight into early Saturday
morning. Smoke may also produce MVFR conditions in smoke ceilings
and potentially visibilities this afternoon and evening.
