606 FXUS63 KDLH 260818 AFDDLH Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Duluth MN 318 AM CDT Thu Sep 26 2024 .KEY MESSAGES... - Warm and dry weather persists through Monday. - Early morning fog today dissipated by mid-morning. - A cold front drops is forecast to move through the area Monday night into Tuesday to drop temperatures to seasonable and produce a 10-30% chance of scattered rain showers. - Frost is possible (40% chance) Tuesday night with temperatures in the mid to low-30s forecast. && .DISCUSSION... Issued at 310 AM CDT Thu Sep 26 2024 Infrared satellite imagery Thursday morning shows patchy fog slowly drifting southward through inland northwest Wisconsin, while surface observations showing reduced visibility from very localized fog development elsewhere in the Northland. Although a lone spot of 1/4 mile dense fog cannot be entirely ruled out. Warm southerly airmass under high pressure ridging keeps well- above normal temperatures in place for today through Monday. Dry weather is also forecast in this time period, even as a weak dry cool front crosses over the Upper Midwest Friday daytime. A more potent cold front is forecast to drop southward Monday afternoon and cross over the Northland Monday night into Tuesday. While fairly moisture-limited, a 10-30% chance of scattered rain showers continues in the forecast for this time period, but widespread light to moderate rainfall is not expected at this time. The trailing colder airmass that sets up behind the front, finally, drops temperatures to near normal in the upper-50s to around 60 F for Tuesday. By Tuesday night as winds drop off with the trough well to the east and the pressure gradient decreasing, that colder airmass is progged to create another period of fairly widespread frost potential (40% chance) as overnight temperatures Tuesday night into Wednesday dip into the low to mid-30s in spots. Daytime temperatures in the low to mid-60s then return for the middle of next week as high pressure again builds back in. && .AVIATION /06Z TAFS THROUGH 06Z FRIDAY/... Southerly winds increase in speed across north- central Minnesota after 16Z today, mainly affecting BRD and INL into this evening. Outside of morning fog, VFR conditions. && .MARINE /FOR NEAR SHORE WATERS OF WESTERN LAKE SUPERIOR/...
