This EF1 occurred in Washington and Johnson counties in Iowa, from near Wellman to Frytown Iowa. .Overview...A fast moving derecho brought both damaging winds and tornadoes to Iowa and Illinois during the morning hours Friday May 24th, 2024. ...Wellman/Frytown Tornado... Rating: EF1 Estimated Peak Wind: 110 mph Path Length /statute/: 18.06 miles Path Width /maximum/: 100 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: 05/24/2024 Start Time: 06:26 AM CDT Start Location: 3 ESE Kinross / Washington County / IA Start Lat/Lon: 41.445 / -91.9396 End Date: 05/25/2024 End Time: 06:48 AM CDT End Location: 3 NNW Sharon Center / Johnson County / IA End Lat/Lon: 41.6124 / -91.6771 Survey Summary: A tornado developed southwest of Wellman in Washington County, and tracked quickly to the northeast along a patch through the Amish and Frytown areas in Johnson County. The tornado caused damage to homes, outbuildings, and trees. No injuries were reported.
